Such confidence.

It'd be hilarious if audience wom was "this movie deserves a Best Picture nomination" and reviews still weren't out by then. :sparta:

I believe that CR will get good reviews. Disney wants to kill the theory that every movie that has a late embargo is a bad movie, so, they can release the future bomb Nutcracker with no fear.

Afternoon update:

Christopher Robin:

6:00: 31/78 +2

8:45: 9/78

Total: 40/156 (Up 2)

Spy Who Dumped Me:

7:00: 13/78 +7

10:00: 0/78

Total: 13/156 (Up 7)

Death of a Nation:

7:00: 10/67 +5

9:40: 0/67

Total: 10/134 (Up 5)

The Darkest Minds:

7:00: 2/78

9:40: 0/78

Total: 2/156

Spy and DOAN just had larger sales together, so idk what to make of that. CR has barely moved, and TDM hasn't moved at all.

Probably it won't become a very exiting weekend but from MT and Pulse numbers alone, Christopher Robin isn't that far behind e.g. HT3: HT3 was at 20% at MT, Christopher Robin stands at 16.2% right now.
At Pulse HT3 sold at the same daytime 109 tickets, Christopher Robin 87 and 82/5 minutes of counting, so 80% respectively 75% of HT3. Would still be good for a quite nice OW number over 30M, maybe 35M. And the CR reviews seems to be at least not as bad as I thought after the first reports.
By the way, the number of users at RT anticipating the movie ('want to see') is respectively was also pretty exactly the same for CR and HT3 (a bit under 1000 each on Thursday). But I just noticed that, RT has so few users participating compared to earlier years that I'm not sure if that means anything anymore.

Christopher Robin 359 1977 18.16%
Spy Who Dumped 44 1582 1.07%

CR Comps:

492% of My Little Pony (43.7M)

101% of Coco (51.1M)

276% of Ferdinand (37M)

235% of Paddington 2 (25.8M)

106% of Peter Rabbit (26.5M)

348% of Sherlock Gnomes (37M)

472% of Show Dogs (28.4M)

14% of Incredibles 2 (25.7M)

94% of Hotel Transylvania 3 (41.6M)

The Paddington and Peter Rabbit comps seem the most appropriate seeing as how all three movies are animated/live-action hybrids with cute CG animals, though I could see this reach the 30s.

Spy Comps:

55% of Game Night (9.3M)

68% of Blockers (13.9M)

28% of Life of the Party (5M)

49% of Book Club (6.6M)

105% of Tag (15.6M)

Yeesh.

We aren't getting Darkest Minds and we thankfully aren't getting Death of a Nation.

First CR at my theater: 42/78

This is already ahead of Wonder's single 7 PM show that had 40 tickets, FWIW

To be fair, that was in the middle of November compared to early August when schools are still out.

7:00 shows:

Spy Who Dumped Me: 28/78

Death of a Nation: 13/67

The Darkest Minds: 12/78

Pretty light all around. I’ll have comps after the late shows, but Spy Who Dumped Me is running around 75% of Tag and Uncle Drew

Final Christopher Robin sales:

6:00: 42/78

Strong previews. This is definitely going to skew a bit older than most Disney movies.

Hotel comp obviously seems more accurate. Definitely don't think this'll miss 30

Christopher Robin: 134/620

Mission Impossible: 38/807 (all 2D)

Spy Who Dumped Me: 21/390

Mamma Mia!: 20/390

Teen Titans Go!: 12/363

The Darkest Minds: 9/390

Incredibles 2: 7/252

Hotel Transylvania 3: 4/460

The Equalizer 2: 3/300

Death of a Nation: 2/335

Jurassic World and Skyscraper have sold nothing.

First off, Death of a Nation is thankfully doing horribly. It's running soooooooo far behind all the Christian movies this year that any comps would be sub-1M.

Christopher Robin comps:

19% of Incredibles 2 (34.7M)

95% of Coco (48.3M)

110% of A Wrinkle in Time (36.4M)

135% of Wonder (37.1M)

150% of Jumanji (54.3M)

335% of Teen Titans Go! (34.8M)

You guys can relax about that sub-30M talk.

Spy Who Dumped Me:

10% of Mamma Mia 2 (3.5M)

45% of Life of the Party (8.1M)

60% of Uncle Drew (9.1M)

65% of The Hitman's Bodyguard (13.9M)

115% of Game Night (19.6M)

140% of I Feel Pretty (22.4M)

150% of Tag (22.4M)

Again, more weak sales. I think this will land closer to 10M than 15M tbh

The Darkest Minds:

20% of Maze Runner 3 (4.8M)

30% of Insidious 4 (8.9M)

40% of Love, Simon (4.7M)

40% of Truth or Dare (7.5M)

60% of Adrift (7M)

Yeesh,

Only thing...you have an AMC, right?  Guess will see how it goes the next few weeks if old comps overestimate movie openings or not (now that AMC's movie subscription service is growing rapidly)...

Even on the lowest grossing weekend of the year, ten million tickets were still sold. The 175k people with A-List are a drop in the bucket compared to that, so I really doubt we'll be seeing any massive changes at this point.
