Its positioned as a movie event for women. its like when theres woman's day and no men are allowed at the strip club.

anyway, this is a shameless publicity stunt, but i see its working. good PR department has WB

I'm sure they'd get a lot of publicity by banning Blacks from the theater too. So, why don't they?

Honest question: how many guys are actually upset about these screenings? I've seen way more people upset about the backlash then I've seen actual backlash.

Personally I couldn't care less. I remember some time back when they announced that every episode of the second season of Jessica Jones was going to be directed by only women. That got some guys upset too. But it passed. This will too.

Nice of you to accuse me of lying. You know nothing about me. I am not lying at all. I will not feel upset if men only screening happened for some movie if I can see it somewhere else. Just because you can't accept that idea yourself doesn't mean others can't. But if imagining I'm lying helps you sleep at night , then go a head.

In other words you wouldn't sympathize with women protesting against that?

Of course it got people upset. It would get any person who cares about equal rights upset!!!

It's one thing if "only men", "only whites", "only blacks" or "only women" have directed something. In the case of movies, for example, that's pretty much unavoidable. It's quite another to publicly state, "look, we're keeping the filthy men out of here! Go us!!"

That's just ........ the screening does not send that message at all. On mother's day we get many mom's only events and that does not mean " keep the filthy father's away " at all. Mother's day events are  celebration of efforts and love that a mother gave to her family. This screening is a celebration of women/daughters finally getting a super hero blockbuster with a female superhero. Little girls can say " I want t be like wonder woman " just like little boys say " I want to be batman ,superman , spiderman ....ect. It has no negative connotation what so ever like you're trying so hard to pretend it has.

Can these posts go into a separate thread or something? I realize things are slow concerning WW until the reviews embargo is lifted, but getting kind of tired of all this. I'm sure those passionate about the subject (on both sides) will entertain themselves to oblivion in their own thread. Just my one cent.

Are "mother's day events", as you call them - we have Mother's Day here, and I've never, ever heard of any events where only mothers can attend - geared towards women who have birthed a baby?

Is Wonder Woman a movie only of interest to women?

What this all boils down to is you have a situation where you ban one gender from entering a theater and then you try to argue it isn't sexism. That's pretty much horrid.

I support this. Someone is welcome to start a thread in The Speakeasy to continue the screening discussion.

I'll be away from the forums for a chunk of today but I will move posts when I get back (if someone else hasn't already).

Why do you care? It's only like 2 screenings, men can attend other screenings, and it's such a non-issue. Like we have Trump as President: the guy who wants to deport Hispanics and who wants to ban Muslims from entering the USA. Complaining that a theater is having 2 paid screenings only for women but letting males attend other screenings, I think getting upset over this is just looking for dumb things to get upset over. There are legitimate problems in the world. This is not one of them.

I care because I know from personal experience what segregating on the grounds of sex leads to. I care because I know what trivializing this leads to. There needs to be a zero tolerance policy when it comes to this.

However, I will shut up now. I wanted to point out that no, I'm not a right winger. no, I'm not a "men's right activist", but I do see a problem with this on the simple grounds of human equality. Stating I see a problem with this should not be grounds for attacking and belittling me for my gender. That's simply proving there is a problem here.

That's funny since you were the one who called me a liar because I am a woman that said " I will not have a problem with men only screening ". While I never insulted you once. Go figure.

"The men upset about the women-only Wonder Woman screening are going to lose it when they find out where Wonder Woman is from."

I'm probably one of the least informed CB dudes here, but doesn't she come from a women only Island out in the ocean or some shit?  If thats where Chris Pine washes up on in the trailer thats a lucky dude.

You faced personal discrimination as a man in Sweden, one of the most progressive and open country in history?

That was not my argument, but: Yes. Absolutely.

Have you visited my country?

We're gonna need to move a big chunk of this to

a new thread, but a key thing to consider:

Discrimination is problematic when it's the dominant ethnicity/culture pushing aside or persecuting minorities (whether ethnic or gender or what have you). It's not an issue when minorities or those who've faced some sort of similar persecution choose to have an event to

celebrate that particular status or culture.

Men (in particular white men) have essentially dominated most cultures and the opposite gender through violence and power throughout history. They've largely treated everyone else like chattel. The fact that a few men are getting pissy about a few screenings that do not limit men from seeing this particular movie speaks volumes to how narrow this male perspective viewpoint can get. Anything can feel like persecution when the typical white male perspective ("I can do anything I want whenever I want") is limited, when in fact most of the rest of the world has to deal with this every single day in a billion different situations.

No I want to though. Swedes make great films. My sister is currently visiting Sweden/Norway/Denmark/Iceland.

To let you understand where I come from.

I have been a part of socialist circles in Sweden for a very long time. I've been engaged in anti-racist drives, demos, campaigns against female oppression, etc, etc. I've seen the rise of the "identitarian" Left, so to speak, in my country. The regressive Left. The "Feminist" Left that does not dare to speak out against immigrants abusing their women because that would be racist, for example.

There are many women-only events in these circles. The most notable leftist place in my town organizes women-only meetings (cafes, concerts) at least once a week. In this environment the hatred of men is incredible. Mindboggling. You learn to tolerate being disrespected for your gender or you get out. That your opinion does not matter because you're a man. All Swedes know this, but the men dare not speak out. The only people able to address the systemic discrimination against men in our society are women, and even they are treated as outcasts. That should tell you a little about how things work here.
