I'm thrilled about Wonder Woman's success. $350m is locked without a doubt. I really hope it's able to slightly pass DH2

Phenomenal for its genre and for the film. I love how it opened $65m less than BvS (which features Batman and Superman - significantly more iconic and well-known than WW) but is going to end up at least $30m higher.

Jenkins single-handedly saved the DCEU. If WW had been a dud, the DCEU would have been under jeapordy. I love that it was a female director and a female superhero that saved the franchise.

DM3 seems so much like Shrek 4. There were two beloved big predecessors and a big predecessor that had bad reception that didn't beat the second domestic.

I really don't see Minions as a movie with bad reception.  It opened very well and had almost a 3X.  But Minions is just part of the DM legacy.  Despicable Me 2 made back and I think people love the series.  I don't see why this one would fall 100 million from the last.

The Book of Henry is doing pretty well despite the shit reviews. Audience reception is solid, and given that midsize theaters have movies they need to get rid of, Focus might be able to get it into 1k theaters next weekend.

Minions is practically the third Despicable Me, and I don't buy any arguments that it isn't.

I don't think 100m down front Minions but 260 isn't unreasonable.  The buzz for it is rather subdued and a sub-3x multi for an animated film is quite bad honestly.  It indicates it was poorly received.

I think the Shrek comparison is a valid one, and I think sub-300m is in store for DM3.

Buzz from who?  It's a kids movie.

I feel like we do this every time with non Pixar animated films.

The box office for the three movies before Wonder Woman sits at a total of $2.29 billion dollars. Add in what WW has made so far and it's getting close to $3 billion after just four movies. Plus all the merchandise sales. Making money is what it all comes down to and the DCEU was sitting pretty in that regard before Wonder Woman. The fact WW has been so well received and is killing it at the box office is just icing on the cake. This notion anything needed saving continues to be a farce.

DM3 hasn't been suffocating products and TV like SLOP and Minions did. I even feel like Sing had more awareness this close to release than DM3 did. The film has no hook other than "Hey, it's Despicable Me! Come see it! You love the minions, don't you? Fluffy unicorns! Remember?!" It doesn't help that WW is already taking up a lot of families and SMH surely will too in addition to CU and Cars.

The Lords of the rings are not in that top ? I guess they could count as New Lines, but otherwise it would look like this (will not change the number of SH in the top 10 thought, still 5, but WW could be number 5 instead of 4):

Looking at the fastest to $250m chart is fun (given WW will pass it today on day 16). The idea that HP8 would take 9 days to reach it and not even sniff $400m and have much worse legs than even TF2 after this point is a bit amusing. Also funny how consistent the Twilight movies were.

Aaaaand it also features Wonder Woman

Trying to make sense of this from a mathematics point of view is all sorts of confusing

Wonder Woman  ≥  Wonder Woman + Batman + Superman

How the hell do you solve this?
