The bet is nixed. It is an ex-bet. It has ceased to be. It's pining for the fjords.

It's not pining, it's passed on! It is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't pinned the thread it'd be pushing up the daisies! Its metabolic processes are now history! its off the twig! Its kicked the bucket, shuffled off the mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleeding choir invisibile!

IT IS AN EX BET

man WW will be in the high since its sub 1 million dollars daily will appens in day 46 same as TFA and Spiderman. Dude that is a good sign to judge the legs of a film the sub -1 million.

THe story of 2017 imo with Get out.

we all known TLJ will be a monster but that 's expected:) )

It's also straight-up fudge. We had some fun with this back in 2009 when Harry Potter opened on a Wednesday and then Terminator Salvation all the sudden increase by a billion percent that day. Studios often somehow manage to move money from one movie to another when another one of their films opens up.

You will notice that the hangover did not benefit from Harry Potter opening because that was rated R but they can get away with it with a PG-13 Terminator film.

Yep. Goes to both. Also drive ins.

Also Puerto Rico.

AKA fudge

The fudge doesn't really happen often or have that much of an impact.  There are only a small few relevant examples of it happening that mattered with Spectre being the most obvious.

Do double features play a part in the small drops we sometimes see, or is that another thing we overestimate the impact of?

Agree 100%. You are correct in that there's only a few scattered examples but when they do fudge it looks so ridiculously obvious. The Harry Potter and Terminator Salvation thing was another big one and as I mentioned that's basically when we really started getting into the fudge thing. Also of course Puerto Rico started a couple of months before that with Transformers 2.

The biggest triple chocolate fudge brownie with extra chocolate sauce almond sprinkles and a scope of ice cream was AOE OWe

That week Of Harry Potter & TS , ROTF benefited somewhat as well drop would have been more than 43%. The thing is though that  as that's the norm, HP in a later week would then become the recipient of a benefit so it kinda evens out on that front.

The small drops/gains can be double features and or discount houses.

As I've explained many times before Domestic is only market that does the double/triple features and allocated 100%  of BO to all titles in the program, its also only market that allows mixed studios/distributors (so a WB with a Fox, elsewhere it would have to be all WB or all Fox etc).

PR is it Domestic or International or both :)

If BD goes up by 10% Tuesday that puts it at 6 mill. Give it a 35% drop Wednesday and its over 4 still.

In Canada maybe :P... Overall Canada still increase over Monday, Tues looking at drops but top 5 titles individually probably a max -10%
