I haven't noticed much about the Apes marketing because I'm only doing "teaser and maybe first trailer"  these days and then I go dark until reviews start coming out. I'll say this much, I'm a huge Apes fan and one of my friends is also but my other friend when we asked if he is coming tomorrow was like  "I guess? It should be okay"  and it had me thinking..   I know this series is pretty big,  it got up over $700M last time around WW.

But I still don't feel like most of the GA view Apes franchise as "must see" even if the reviews are great. It just feels like a franchise that unfortunately has a peak which its already reached and nowhere to go but down regardless of how good they are.

I'm not too concerned about the numbers because hey, at least we got this trilogy.  I'm satisfied in that Reeves was able to finish this trilogy out.  If this is it for them (at least for now) then it's gonna be a great way to go out.

You say impossible, I say just not done yet:)...there will be a movie that does it...it will just take the right one in the right circumstances...

Every time a movie has a run never done before, it achieves what was before impossible...I've spent since 1999 watching DOM movie runs...and every year, at least one does the impossible...so, I have learned to never write off anything until the actual number arrives...

Maybe, but not today.

Being a bit fantastical (to compensate for disappointment of Apes so far), hoping for

5 + 17 + 18.5 (+9%) + 15 (-19%) = 55.5 ow (22 od)

And then 2.8x for 155 dom.

Says something when even the most optimistic expectation is only 55.5/155.

F8 could be the only non-CBM/non-animation/non-StarWars movie to cross 200 this year. IT needs to surprise BIG time to do 200. DUNKIRK can do 200 but IMO it will be sub-180.

This is such a basic way to rate trailer stalkers.  I have them in order of when I first got them in my list, with the spot never changing, just the number.  To break ties with movies, I rank it based on how much later I got it.  For example, I got Daddy's Home 2, Kingsman, and Atomic Blonde all 8 times.  However, I started getting Daddy's Home 2 more recently so it's ranked higher than Kingsman, which is in turn ranked higher than Atomic Blonde :).

The Dark Tower is my current trailer stalker. I was leaning towards Daddy's Home, but because I didn't get it at The Big Sick (or was it before I showed up? :redcapes: ), I'm giving the title to The Dark Tower until it comes out. Top stalks of the year:

1. Transformers: 12 (BATB, Power Rangers, GITS, GOTG, GOTG IMAX, King Arthur, Alien, POTC, Baywatch, Wonder Woman, The Mummy, It Comes at Night)

2. The Mummy: 9 (Split, Kong, Life, The Circle, GOTG, GOTG IMAX, Alien, POTC, Wonder Woman)

3. Despicable Me 3: 8 (Sing, LEGO Batman, BATB, Power Ranges, Boss Baby, Captain Underpants, Cars, Transformers)

3. Valerian: 8 (LEGO Batman, Power Rangers, GITS, The Circle, Wonder Woman, The Mummy, Transformers, Apes)

5. The Dark Tower: 7 (King Arthur, It Comes at Night, Baby Driver, Spider-Man, The House, Apes, Big Sick)

5. Kingsman: 7 (GOTG, King Arthur, Alien, Baywatch, Baby Driver, Spider-Man, Apes)

I just report how many times I've gotten them this year and do my own assessment based on recency  I use similar logic. That's why Dark Tower is my current stalker and not Kingsman: it has the numbers and frequency.

You see, Dark Tower should be ranked higher than Kingsman in this scenario, with Valerian edging out DM3 too.  You started getting them at a later date than the other one it's tied with, which means it's had a higher ratio of showing up as a trailer to any new movie you're seeing.  There are no ties.  There is only RANKING.

My current stalker is Daddy's Home 2 then in this scenario.  I've gotten it 8 times and it's still not coming out for 4 months...and I only got it first 3 weeks ago.
