Gaming rights for LOTR have changed hands a number of times.

And they are totally different then gaming rights for the novels themselves.

Circa 2002, you had dueling LOTR computer games out: one with the licence from the novles, the other with the rights from the books.

oh maybe i should buy them.

Well, if you got a spare  20 million which is the minimum you would need for them to even take a look at you as a potential buyer..and it would not be a long look without a lot more then that.

Yeah,  Sierra and EA were the competing companies.

A lot of people don't remember Sierra but they were one of the first really, realy, big computer gaming companies. They were one of the major gaming companies until they began to fall apart in the late 90's. The LOTR book franchise was their bid for a comeback, but the games were less then memorable.

Feels like buying film rights (if that is even possible based on litigation between WB and Zaentz) is pretty useless for another 15 years or so at the very least. It's just that Peter Jackson and Co pretty much did the definitive version of the books on-screen. They had the budget, the resources and the willingness to pretty much bring Tolkein's vision to the movies pretty much as best as it can be.

There can definitely be a good standalone Hobbit movie made, but it may still be too early. LOTR and the Hobbit are pretty much not happening again as movies this decade. TV Shows and games are possible. Merchandising will be really hard with New Line and the actors owning the likenesses people know.

Universal doing a Middle-Earth land on the scale of Wizarding World/Super Nintendo World would be lit tho

What the hell is this guy’s problem???

He invested in the area, so affordbale housing means less rich people. Less rich people means less money being spent in the area he's invested in with comedy clubs etc. He's a businessmen, and he wasn't the only one voicing concerns over it. Twitter are just out trying to get him.

If you invested in Amazon, then amazon decided to lower their premiums to be more affordable yet bring in less business, you'd probably sell up and find another stock too. When you have millions on the line, its fair to voice concerns and reconisder your investment.

A lot of rich people in urban areas go #this that on twitter for politics then oppose affordable housing.

Like i can understand some concerns, my cousin bought a condo in a cool area. Then city put a homeless shelter beside it and now you cant go out at night.

Just because you can understand why someone might hold a shitty viewpoint doesn't stop it from being a shitty viewpoint. 👍
