i mean it's a little different unless one of the kids from 13r was caught on film screaming the n word.

I was more thinking how 13 Reasons has been unapologetic in how irresponsible its portrayed different issues on screen.  It’s one of the few shows that could actually have an actual negative effect on the public (and there’s evidence that first season did, we’ll see about 2)

Racists are horrible and so are suicide glorifiers.

i think nobody cares about the actual content of what's in these shows as long as it's performing well. roseanne wasn't gonna get cancelled if something racist happened on the show it got cancelled cos she fucked up irl.

And now Roseanne is taking it out on her co-stars by saying they threw her under a bus. She should be grateful they even gave her the time of day in the first place (especially Sara Gilbert, the person who moved the needle the most in bringing the show back). Fucking crazy lady.

I'll give her credit for this though: she somehow managed to give the show's legacy an even worse ending than the finale of the original series. Didn't think that was possible but mission accomplished.

I wonder if ABC regrets passing on that Full House reboot a few years ago (because they apparently didn't want to do it without the Olsen Twins' involvement) which, by all accounts, is a hit for Netflix. They bet on the wrong show to ride that nostalgia train. Oh well.

I don't think a hit on Netflix is the same thing as a hit on ABC? We don't know though.

Let’s not talk about Season 2.

Where is the evidence?

Is there a difference though between somebody acting racist irl vs somebody glorifying racism in their show.  They’re both racist.

Im not saying that Netflix does care, I’m saying they should.  The show creators may not be glorifying suicide and such outside of the show, but they sure are using their show as a vehicle for their negative message while trying to mask it as a good one.

this just reminds me when right wing newspapers in the UK like ten years ago went off on My Chemical Romance because a fan killed herself and suddenly they were reporting that the band were leaders of a suicide cult, cos they have songs about suicide. i don't think the creators of 13ry think suicide is an especially good idea.

It’s pretty common for most psychologists who takes about the show to say it’s a potential trigger for somebody with depression or contemplating suicide (or who’s attempted in the past).

The fact that the show rather ignorantly ignores guidelines from psychologists and mental health professionals is pretty aggravating and shows they don’t care about actually using the show as an educational show for mental health and suicide.  There are much better shows and movies that address suicide in a manner that won’t trigger somebody who is at risk or vulnerable to being influenced.

“That guy didn’t shoot up the school because he had ‘mental health’ issues, he shot it because he played Call of Duty”

Thats how dumb the 13 Reasons Why-Causes Suicide argument sounds to me.

Oh yeah you are of cource right this was an instant thought of mine while watching. I cannot think of a more inappropriate show for someone that is depressed to watch. I was just thinking that maybe there are also concerns that it can harm on the way it is promote the issue of bullying which after some thought I considered very shallow and slightly dangerous.

Honestly, I legimately think that they had no bad intention but the result is messed up. Luckily, I stopped the second season very early. I won't get into that emotional manipulation only to see the most cliche ending ever. There was nothing that seemed intresting even excluding the problems with all the issues it's portraying.

They try tackling school shootings in Season 2. It doesn’t work well.
