In a just world, this would be the straw that broke the camel's back in getting this person booted out of Congress.

He isn't even trying to hide it anymore.

Diversity isn't widely considered a positive virtue in every culture. I'm under the impression there's even more contempt for Muslims in certain European countries than in the US.

So I just found out on twitter that square dancing was popularized in a racist effort to destroy jazz, and that quicksand porn is a thing.

Someone I follow RTd a thread talking about that :sarah:

New NYC subway cars

They're definitely more colorful

They look nice and seem to have adopted the walk through design that's common on most trains and metro systems around the world. How old is the current stock?

I wonder why the Subway doesn't have cushioned seats, surely it's not that expensive, even the Tube in London has them

My assessment of the NYC subways from the brief time I was there was that they appeared to be on the verge of collapse. They looked like they hadn't undergone maintenance in years, certainly compared to Toronto and Chicago's systems which are pretty nice and modern looking. Cleveland's rail lines used to be kind of ugly but they were recently refurbished and look pretty good now, especially since they finally got an audible computer voice to announce the stops.

Placed holds for The Maze Runner, The Disaster Artist, and It at my library. I'll be able to pick up the first two tomorrow, but I'm the sixth hold for It :ohmygod: Any other books I should get?

Proper investment in key to people using public transport. TfL for example has invested big money and it's paid off with increased passenger numbers. The Elizabeth Line in 2018 is going to be great and provide a faster way of getting around London.

I've been to NY a few times and I've barely used the Subway, I tend to walk or get a Cab. The L Train in Chicago, the trams in SF and the The T in Boston were decent. I didn't use any public transport when I was in Toronto as I just walked using the PATH system and also a cab. The trams in Toronto looked nice though.

A question for @Lor San Tele or anyone based in LA, I went there and public transport seem non existent compared to other major cities but I've heard there is going to be a expansion of the Metro system. I wonder if LA could ever reduce their car or cab assumption and adopt light rail or invest more in public transport?

I placed holds for Catcher in the Rye and Great Gatsby too; don't worry

I was thinking about putting that, Red Sparrow, and Sharp Objects, but I'll already be getting three books tomorrow. They'll have to wait.

I will say the NYC subs are pretty reliable and efficient. If you need to get up and down Manhattan the subways are the easiest way to do it. I really stressed myself out debating whether or not to get a week pass for the four days I spent there but ultimately I had no regrets buying it.

Toronto's system is kind of limited but it was definitely helpful for getting around during TIFF. I learned relying on the trams was a lost cause.

Did you use the PATH in Toronto? I thought it was a great way of getting to places and it's warm!!!

I do find the Subway is very behind in terms of technology, they're only just investing in smart travel cards and contactless travel which many cities have had for years!
