SOTM 3 - Oscars are all around Me

Recommended Posts

Okay, the Oscar question returns and it is time to try and make it balanced...

Predict the 6 highest grossing films that get nominated for an Oscar (Any Oscar will make a film eligible for the list (so no Black Panther, Quiet Place etc here).

However, here are a few ways that a films gross can be multiplied: (A film can be multiplied many times over, but only once in each coloured section so the best option only applies)

If a film is nominated for an Oscar, it is eligible for this list.

If a film is nominated for 3 or more Oscars, its gross is Doubled.

If a film is nominated for 6 or more Oscars, its gross is Tripled.

If a film is nominated for 9 or more Oscars, its gross is Quadrupled.

If a film is nominated for 12 or more Oscars, its gross is Quintupled.

If a film is nominated for at least one Acting/Directing/Best Picture Oscar, its gross is doubled.

If a film is nominated for at least 3 Acting/Directing/Best Picture Oscar, its gross is tripled.

If a film is nominated for at least 5 Acting/Directing/Best Picture Oscar, its gross is Quintupled.

If a film WINS an Oscar, its gross is doubled.

If a film WINS 3 Oscars, its gross is tripled.

If a film WINS 5 Oscars, its gross is quadrupled.

If a film WINS 7 Oscars, its gross is quintupled.

If a film WINS 10 Oscars, its gross is sextupled.

If a film WINS at least one Acting/Directing/Best Picture Oscar, its gross is doubled.

If a film WINS at least 3 Acting/Directing/Best Picture Oscar, its gross is tripled.

If a film WINS at least 4 Acting/Directing/Best Picture Oscar, its gross is quadrupled.

If a film WINS at least 5 Acting/Directing/Best Picture Oscar, its gross is quintupled.

So a film that grosses only $10M dollars, but wins 12 Oscars including 5 of the big ones will end up with a gross of:

10 x 5 x 5 x 6 x 5 = $7.5B dollars -Not bad. (And why there is no gros guessing section here.

Okay so the math is crazy but the actual scoring is pretty simple:

For each correctly predicted film, regardless of order you receive 20,000 points

For each film in the exact spot you receive 10,000 bonus points (so 30,000 total)

For each film predicted that makes over $1B after multipliers, receive 10,000 points

For each film predicted that makes over $5B after multipliers, receive 20,000 points

For each film predicted that makes over $10B after multipliers, receive 40,000 points

Call 3 of the top 6 correctly (any order) receive 30,000 bonus points

Call 4 of the top 6 correctly (any order) receive 60,000 bonus points

Call 5 of the top 6 correctly (any order) receive 100,000 bonus points

Call 6 of the top 6 correctly (any order) receive 150,000 bonus points

For every incorrect film that gets an Oscar nomination lose 10,000 points

For every film that does not get nominated for any Oscar lose 25,000 points

Deadline November 9th, as you may want a little for time (so week 2 weeklies deadline)

You can abstain for 5,000 points, but that could be a mistake.

Not feeling very confident about this one yet, but I may as well get something down to work from as I am feeling like it'd be a mistake to abstain from it. Unlike that international one. I'm not touching that one with a 3-meter pole.

1. Mary F-ing Poppins

2. The Favourite

3. Vice

4. Green Bbok

5. Fantastic Beasts

6. Widows
