Dear Mister Cranston.

I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.

I’ve just finished a marathon of watching “BREAKING BAD” – from episode one of the First Season – to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. (I downloaded the last season on AMAZON) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.

I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!

Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.

I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I’ve sort of lost belief in anything really.

But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers…. every department – casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.

From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.

If you ever get a chance to – would you pass on my admiration to everyone – Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada – everyone – everyone gave master classes of performance … The list is endless.

Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.

You and all the cast are the best actors I’ve ever seen.

That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It’s almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.

Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.

Best regards

Tony Hopkins.

Watch the show's natural successor, Sleepy Hollow.

Although it certainly doesn't fill the Breaking Bad void in my life, I have definitely been impressed with that show so far. I could really see it coming into its own as the critical darling in a few years if the writers play their cards right with it. Lots of potential.

So I've been watching Breaking Bad for the first time. Am now watching "Fly" and...well it certainly is an interesting use of the "bottle episode" concept for television.

I wondered why this didn't show up in your top TV shows.

That's one of my favourites. So many people hate it and I've no idea why.

I ended up liking the episode a great bit. It had the right balance between ridiculousness and sad earnestness for using Walt's assault against the Fly as a metaphor for him being unable to handle or deal with any of the actual problems of note afflicting his work, family, and mentality.

It basically got to the point where I decided to just wait for it all to be over before getting into it.

I actually think so far Aaron Paul has out-acted Cranston.

While I would disagree for Seasons 1 and 2, I  do think Aaron Paul outclassed Cranston in Seasons 3 and 4. Which is why he deservedly won Emmys for both those seasons.

Yeah, that seems about right. Aaron Paul definitely had his best season in season 3. (No matter how many times I watch the end of Full Measures it just wrecks me) Cranston easily outdoes Paul in season 5 because it kinda feels like Jesse doesn't get much to do, though he has some outstanding moments.

I'm in the first season right now. I did watch it before up to that episode and while it was amazing, it killed a lot of the momentum for me which...meant that I didn't watch it for months, I started from the beginning to remember what happened. -.-I am dedicated to finishing this though.
