You're cracking me up. That's the best one yet. What next? McQ is to blame for the covid lockdowns and the SAG strike?

People are actually trolling at this point. Christopher McQuarrie is not going to be blacklisted nor is Cruise.

Mcquarrie's credited projects:

1. MI: 5/6/7/8

2. Top Gun Maverick

3. The Mummy

4. Jack Reacher

5. Edge of Tomorrow

6. Valkyrie

7. Way of The Gun

8 . The Usual Suspects

Outside of The Mummy, literally everything else that he's involved with is at the very least good with majority being great.

I know this is a Box office forum but please know that studios don't judge artists by their Box office performancy only.. it's also their pedigree.

Most of Spielberg's last few movies have flopped, you think his career's on the line?...same with Scorsese but he still got $200m for a drama! You think Apple is expecting a return on that.

Dennis Villeneuve bagged Dune after BR:2049 flopping big.

Margot Robbie hadn't been in a hit since The Suicide Squad (2016)...Ryan Gosling's last theatrical hit was La La Land (2016)..Greta Gerwig's biggest movie prior to Barbie made 'just' $200m.

Please realize that these studios have billions of dollars of cash with them. Disney loses billions on its streaming service every quarter.

A theatrical loss of $150m is a drop in the bucket for these studios.

Movie studios are in the business of goodwill. Theatrical goodwill ensures more signups to their subscription platforms and more continuation of existing subscribers--------that is where the real money is.

So no, Mcquarrie's career is not on the line ffs!

It's a dud of a movie honestly.

The reviews are giving it undeserved credit.

Didn't even feel like an MI movie, just another paint by numbers action flick.

Still surprised people aren't bringing up having the action star drive around for 30 minutes was a mistake. Its pretty bad editing. Ethan does nothing but follow what Benji tells him.

What is missing in DR is the suspense scene like hanging down scene in mi 1 or room swapping like in mi4. It shouldn't become just another James Bond movie. Car chase in the sand Storm in mi4 is very clever but car chase in Rome is nothing new.

Ghost protocol is the film people rewatch the most in the franchise. It sets the standard of for action movies for Asian audience. To them it is one of the best action ever made. When people thinks about Mission Impossible people remember memorable scenes like Hanging scene in mi1 and Dubai tower climbing in mi4.

What is your evidence for these assertions? Did you or someone else conduct surveys?

she didn't need to be in Fallout, but wasn't sure if her reduced role was due to pregnancy , and why bring back the character for DR pt1 if they gave her a happy ending in Fallout

She had the good ending by the end of Rogue Nation. With the way that Fallout was written, She really didn't have to be there.

Yes there are message board in Asian movie discussion at least Asian fans (Asia are big markets for Cruise). Countries Like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea etc .  Ghost protocol is by far the most beloved one and the one people rewatch over & over again.  Many didn't remember the stories of MI5 or fallout but they remember everything about Mi4.

It's doing what is was supposed to do. Some big markets it's tracking ahead of FALLOUT. Some markets it's not doing great. Barbenheimer is a global phenomenon. OP is selling out IMAX worldwide. So it got hit badly. If you take away China where it got limited release and got pulled quickly, it's doing FALLOUT numbers. The big disappointment is the domestic tally.

Bad news for MI7 is the exchange rate.

Even though MI 7 doing very well in Japan at the moment. the exchange rate is killing it with the strongest US dollars & weak yen. MI 4 made a huge $70 millions in Japan back in 2011 and that would be around $38 millions in today exchange rate.

Not just in isolation but in terms of the franchise and the yearly chart and/or expectations

And where does it look to finish?

Looking good. Still need to wait a while (at least post-Obon in a couple weeks) to get an idea of where it may finish, but ¥5 billion is certainly doable. To outgross MI6, it needs to beat V4 72b (seems very likely). To outgross M13 and MI5, it needs to beat V5.14b and 5.15b (at least 50/50 chance). And to outgross M14, it needs to beat ¥5.38b (a little harder, but still achievable).

Y5 billion is only about $35m with the awful exchange rate, so in USD, it probably won't outgross any of its predecessors despite possibly beating all but the first two films in JPY and probably admissions too.

But... comparing USD numbers isn't an accurate means of judging performance. For example, M14 was released in one of the best exchange rate years ever and earned over $70m with just 5.386. That's only $38m today, just over half as much MI7 would need to gross a crazy ¥10 billion (86% MORE than M14) just to match it in USD
