Weekend Thread (1/25-1/27): Weekend Estimates: Glass 19M l Upside 12.2M l Aquaman 7.3M l Kid WWB King 7.2M l Spider-Verse: 5.5M l Green Book 5.2M l Serenity 4.8M

This low box office indicates that something may really break out in the next few weeks.

They Shall Not Grow Old may do something really special.

Lego Movie Part 2 was one I was convinced would fall very flat, but crowds may be hankering for it by the time it comes out. Great release date in hindsight.

Alita's renegotiated release is starting to look better by the week as well.

Everyone thought Glass would take January by storm and reach Split or much higher numbers. Considering that it's underwhelming, well, that kinda turned January into the boring dump month that it has been so far.

Tbh, the unexpected breakouts - Escape Room, The Upside and DBS Broly - have been quite entertaining, and so have been the main holdovers of 2018 - Aquaman and Spider-Verse. Otherwise, this is a duuuuuuuull January, and February might be on the drought side as well.

EDIT: That's a way better hold for Glass than anticipated :ohmygod:  Might've been overestimated, though.

In the past 2 years, BvS, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and now Aquaman have pushed 3 Harry Potter movies out of the top 10. Used to be a good balance between Potter, Middle Earth and Batman, now its 60% DC movies.

I don't understand this post. Bloggers told me the DC franchise was dead, everyone hates it and that WB should reboot it.

That's an abnormally high jump from yesterday's estimates (16.6M to $19M). Are we sure that's not a typo?

That's what I was wondering. Wouldn't be a bad drop for GLASS at all if it does indeed hit $19M.

FWIW yesterday was an extremely busy day at my theater with everything selling out (of course it was also really cold and raining down hard here as well so that probably boosted business) so who knows, maybe everything saw better than usual increases yesterday.

This another holiday weekend or something?

Looking at the trends over the years shows that Saturday bumps are really massive during this period. Gonna be the same next weekend since the Super Bowl will deflate everything on Sunday.
