Staying in 1960, we get the seventh (and final? Don't want to spoil for Canastop) Billy Wilder film. Honestly, I don't usually like romantic comedies very much, and while I love Wilder's dramatic films, I don't find his comedies to be nearly as good. Except this film that is, because the apartment manages to have both a great drama and romance, combined with being legitimately very funny, which is incredibly hard to pull off.

I really wish more of those who'd seen a lot of B&W films had taken part and voted.  Hopefully though this list will encourage others to watch some classics - not just for history, or comparison but b/c they're great entertaining films.

Coming in almost 100 points higher than third place, we get Casablanca. This film has become massively famous and well regarded over the years, and it still gets quoted to this day ("I'm shocked! Shocked to find that gambling is going on in here"). It was tied for being on the most lists and tied for the most number 1 votes, and yet, there is 1 more to go.

Based on its very high ranking in the BOT top 100 for all films, this win was expected. But expected or not, if it's worthy then it should win, and I think this is the right spot, and so does the BOT consensus. This little film, that all takes place in a single room, managed the incredible feat of getting 11 of the 16 voters to place it in the top 5. and despite tying for being on the most lists, it had the best average position of any film with more than 1 vote.

thank you for doing this tower and I definitely have a lot of movies I need to watch. I will definitely try to find a lot of these because my knowledge of film starts basically from 1970. I've seen maybe a quarter of these black and white films. So I will definitely use this list and try to find some in the future.
