OS is a lot harder and trickier to predict before OW than US but i respect the attempt

This movie, right here, is the quintessential example of: "Nobody asked for this"

 

Some people on Reddit are acting like the sequel is dropping because Joker 2019 wasn't loved. That's not true, it had insane legs and became a cultural phenonenom. It has an 8.4 on IMDB and a 3.9 on Letterboxd. It had crazy good WOM.

 

The issue is that nobody asked for a sequel to Joker

When this bombs, Joaquin's career will survive it. Even with him dropping out of movies at the last minute and killing them. 

Lady Gaga's film career will not survive it, though.

Did anyone ask for a sequel to Top Gun, Beetlejuice, Twister or Gladiator?  It's Hollywood, we get sequels to everything. Making Joker 2 a musical will be the downfall.  The other movies I mentioned gave fans of the first movie more of the same....Joker 2 didnt.

Too early to say.

She has had a couple of sucesses. She might be wise to do what Sinatra did in his film comeback; and don't do musicals untilhe has restablished his credentials as a serious actor. He did straight dramas after "From Here To Eternity" and only after that returned to the musicals with "Guys and Dolls".

Making a sequel to the Joker was sort of a no brainer.

Making into a Muscial was very risky, and apprently has not payed off.

Yeah I'll admit it it's really, really hard to pin-point. But imo it's a combination of the first one working well as a stand-alone movie, them turning the sequel to a court-room drama/musical, the lightning in a bottle aspect is gone, DC/CBMs are cooked, etc.

I actually think the villian here was the basic concept of making the Joker sequel a musical. Phllipd really had to hit it out of the ballpark for that to work, and he did not.
