The Marvels is not the biggest bomb of all time. Flower Moon is much more of a bomb box office wise, are people saying that cast is never being in anything again?

The Marvels has $70m higher production budget, much higher marketing budget than KOTFM. It is one of the biggest bombs of all time.

And that means the character needs to be written out...why?

I don't really think Ms Marvel needs to be written out. However, future stories wouldn't really focus so much on the character, since she doesn't seem to attract the audience.

Ms Marvel will need to be the supporting character in a story with a really popular character.

The Vellani praise seems to be coming from people scrambling to find things they liked about the film, and/or folks who have prior exposure to the Marvels show (less than 0.01% of the population I'd imagine).

Didn't really dislike her - 'fangirl in a team with her hero' is more of a character dynamic than most stuff in Marvel recently. (A tad overacted but I guess too much is better than wooden)

But it's not particularly memorable either. I forgot most of the film within a couple hours of leaving the theatre. I agree that the GA doesn't care at all.

That doesn't line up with the raves she has for her own series.

Why is KOFTM being compared to Marvels? The bar for success of these movies is completely different. It’s irrelevant which film is a bigger bomb — Marvels is clearly the failure here. It is the $220-250M sequel to a movie that made $1.1 billion and it’s gonna be lucky to make $215M WW.

Apple didn’t make KOTFM to make money at the BO. The theatrical release was a necessary concession in order to get Marty to make it for them. From Apple’s perspective, they now have a critical darling starring Leo they can use to promote their streaming service. Similar deal with Napoleon.

Marvel, on the other hand, made Marvels to make money, and they are clearly going to lose a lot of money on this movie. It also has revealed that audiences don’t really have any interest in the characters.

Because MCU fans have a chip on their shoulder regarding Scorsese

Marvels' budget is $200-$220M according to both trades and UK taxing files. Indy and KOTFM are bigger bombs.

I don't really want to participate in this weird competition.

However, Indy 5 box office was bigger than its budget (not including promotion), while The Marvels will be lucky to reach 220M.

It's $220M according to tax filing, you're confusing net and gross

Indy would have to gross significantly higher than The Marvels to make up for the 80-100M difference in budget, studios don't keep even half of the box office.

If you don't make 1x your production budget WW, you do enter the epic bomb category.  It's not personal - it's just business.

You can't go that low for revenue and not have repercussions to the film and its characters.  Normally, a result that low ends careers and series.  The MCU is strong enough the latter won't happen (although the Marvel series itself is probably over), but it's beyond obvious none of the 3 leads will lead a Marvel movie until further notice.

Well this sure sounds like someone who is confident in her having a concrete job going forward at the least.

Not necessarily. It's a very diplomatic answer from her and I think she's smart. She has surely seen the online abuse that actresses like Brie Larson or Rachel Zegler have gotten for the mildest comments so it's better to not even engage.

Whether or not this is the  biggest bomb of all time, or more or less  of a bomb than Indy or The Flash or whatever, it’s all irrelevant.

All of those films are near the top of the “biggest bombs of all time” list. Arguing which is more bomb-y is pointless.

(the biggest bomb is still John Carter)

All these movie are shit,no need to debate which one is more
