People do both. Myself I count manually (thankfully each showing shows seats sold/seats remaining), but there are some who use software (Python I think?) to do it automatically

Just comparing BW with Top Gun(Thursday only). TG is little bit behind on ticket sales but has higher average ticket prices plus has much better pace. I expect final day walk ups to be much better as BW operated in constrained environment. At this point 20m previews with early shows are still in picture. This will include 4m early shows. 

 

@ZackM can you update Friday numbers sometime this weekend. Want to see how much it has caught up with thursday sales.

Last night (T-20) was the fourth day of sales for F9, so I was already planning on roping it in either tonight or on Sunday.

 

TLK?  Yeah, probably not.  Or rather maaaaybe on the unofficial tag alongside a FK comp, which I'll re-introduce any day now.

 

(as ever, I see the usefulness of pre-2020 comps as being fairly poor)

I am interested in adjusted seat map comp for mostly two reasons.

 

1. TLK is also a family movie which sells big in presales but also get walkins. It also opened in range most here are expecting JWD to. So final days (like final 7/10 days) trend could be something to watch.

 

2. Since my target/expectations is lower than most others here, I wanna see if and how much lower JWD will be from TLK.

I am in the same boat as well. Its no where looking like a 200m opener looking at alpha sales and regional PS as well. Probably will open closer to last movie than the 1st movie.

I don't see any particular reason why it should be frontloaded. Even with Tue burning off a lot of demand, this still isn't a fanboy driven property with an absolute need to avoid spoilers/see it first.  Also with if WOM is as good as it seems, that'll help the weekend as well.
