Comps (all counted on Wednesday for Friday): The Invitation had 167 sold tickets,

Malignant had 167,

The Invisible Man had (again) 628

and The Conjuring 3 had 1.074 sold tickets. This comp makes Prey for the Devil look worse than it is (this is an original film, no date and date release, no restrictions anymore and The Conjuring 3 had no Thursday shows).

The poor jumps are really worrisome. The Friday number itself is still quite good but I think it needs better jumps till tomorrow to have a chance to reach double digits (judging from my theaters).

Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 128+ (12, 1 Sell Out report which could be true)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 56 (7 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 198 (10 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 1.167 (24 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 1.899 (36 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 4.947. A very good number.

Comps (this is a bit complicated because I don't have a comp with exactly 15 days to go):

TSS (4.1M from previews) had 1.119 sold tickets with 6 days left. Means Wakanda Forever has at the moment  ca. 4.5x the presales of TSS and 9 days left to increase the margin. Probably this is not the best comp because of HBO Max and an unpopular predecessor.

SC (8.8M) had on Monday of its release week (= 3 days left) 2.561 sold tickets. So Black Panther 2 has at the moment ca. twice as many sold tickets and 12 days left to increase the margin.

And Thor 4 (29M) had on Tuesday of the release week (= 2 days left) 7.843 sold tickets = already 63% for Wakanda Forever with 13 days left to overtake (which will of course happen).

The big question now is, will the presales double (which should happen) till the release day or could they be even higher? But even if I say the presales will „only“ double, the SC and the Thor 4 comp point to 30M+ from previews in my theaters.

BOP's weekend forecast says Jane is opening in about 1,000 locations, same with Tar. They're estimating ~2k for Till.

As a notice to this board, Crunchyroll has not one, not two, but seven releases on the calendar for the next six months:

 

Nov 4 - One Piece: Red

Dec 2 - Quintessential Quintuplets Movie
Jan 20 - Untitled
Feb 3 - Untitled
Feb 21 - Untitled
Mar 3 - Untitled
Apr 14 - Untitled

 

The untitled ones were recently added a few days ago, with Quintessential Quintuplets being revealed as the Dec 2 title earlier today. I don't know how many of these will be nationwide with full shows like Dragon Ball, One Piece, etc. or which might be a little more limited like the Sword Art Online release last year, but Crunchyroll does seem to be significantly ramping up the amount of anime titles they'll be putting out into theaters.

Thanks Zack. I think tomorrow will be the 1st day that wakanda will beat Thor. I think Thor got the reactions boost(mediocre one as well) a day later.

If you didn’t know that DS and Thor both had poor reaction and eh final week, you’d probably say MTC1 pointed to 24 or so. Definitely believe it’ll beat that but hard to say by what degree until we’re getting pretty close 🤷‍♂️

Final 2 days of Thor was phenomenal. it was ahead of DS2 by 10% and higher than even what Zack tracked for NWH(there it could be due to sellouts of all prime time shows). Otherwise it was not looking great but thor was a summer release and Thursday 3PM is still a good time in July. Not sure 3PM thursday early November will have similar walkups. Let us wait and see. I would rather expect presales to go beyond thor with stronger reactions.
