By the way, these sneaks will have special "Throwback Pricing" of... $8. So I guess it's a throwback to 2013 or something.

Okay, for $8, I might be there - that's more than 1/2 off my current theater tickets.  Here's hoping Cinemark gets the 80 for Brady sneaks...

Frankly, Nexflix et all should pay attention here. There’s room in the market for a limited theatrical engagement before streaming release particularly with higher profile/high audience engagement films and series

Warner/HBO would be wise to set up a Wed/Thur-Sun run for their season debuts and finales

They should’ve done that with the 2.5 hour Stranger Things season 4 finale, it’d have looked great on the big screen.

I'm still confused as to who the audience for 80 for Brady is supposed to be. Older women who aren't fully engaged with everything going on in the sports world? Football fans (who are perhaps the furthest demo for a movie clearly made for older women)? Fans of Tom Brady (one of the most overexposed people on the planet to the point of fatigue right now)? I feel like of all the movies these days that could have or in fact did end up on a streaming service this is one of those that would've been better off going that route.

Well, that complicates things slightly!

Maybe they'll promote both at halftime! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Yes, the presser explicitly said the Mando trailer is being released at halftime)

That was an unpleasant counting today...

House Party had today 71 sold tickets in 4 or 5 theaters (showtimes in 5 theaters but error report in the AMC in Michigan) for today.
Comps (both counted on Thursday for Thursday): Bob's Burgers had 477 sold tickets

and Jackass Forever had 499 sold tickets.

For Friday House Party had 64 sold tickets.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Friday): Easter Sunday had 297 sold tickets,

Bob's Burgers had 487 sold tickets

and Jackass Forever had 917 sold tickets.

Sub-5M OW for sure.

A Man Called Otto had today 21 sold tickets in 5 theaters (also error report in the AMC in Michigan) for today.
Comps (both counted on Thursday for Thursday): Death on the Nile had 466 sold tickets,

Three Thousand Years of Longing had 231 in 7 theaters

and Mack & Rita had 11 sold tickets in 4 theaters.

For Friday A Man Called Otto had 52 sold tickets.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Friday): Death on the Nile had 487 sold tickets,

Three Thousand Years of Longing had 192 in 7 theaters

and Mack & Rita had 9 sold tickets in 4 theaters

and Stillwater had 72 sold tickets.

Normally with these terrible presales (at least in my theaters) I would think even 5M OW are unreachable. But WOM seems to be good and its last weekend result and the theater average was quite fine (4.2M)...so maybe only just double digits.

Plane, counted today for today:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 73 (2 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
21 (1 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
2+ (1 showtime, again error report)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 1 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 15 (2 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
49 (2 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 49 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 210+.

30% up since yeserday.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Thursday): Angel Has Fallen (1.5M from previews) had 459 sold tickets,

Rambo: Last Blood (1.3M) had 406 sold tickets

and Copshop (?) had 49 sold tickets.
Around 750k from previews is my guess.

Plane, counted today for tomorrow:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 176 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
14 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
2+ (3 showtimes, error report)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 6 (3 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 7 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
39 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 48 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 292+.

Up unexpected meager 18% since yesterday.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Friday): Angel Has Fallen (21.4M OW) had 446 sold tickets,

Rambo: Last Blood (18.9M) had 393 sold tickets,

Copshop (2.3M) had 37 sold tickets,

BT (30M) had 1.250 sold tickets
and The Protege (2.9M) had 91 sold tickets.

The jumps were poor but overall the presales aren't bad. And the Butler movies normally have very good walk-ups so I still think it will reach double digits.

I assume the fact that OTTO is already out on limited release would hurt presales a bit or am I wrong?

You could be right. And its showtimes were announced very late in my theaters.

I think the early access stuff for The Plane and Otto being out and doing very well on the 600 theatres is playing havoc with these comps.

I think Otto does 10M+ and The Plane might well get very close to that as well. House Party is doa. I doubt it makes 10M in total domestic run.

 - Amsterdam - 1.012x (556k)

 - Uncharted - .139x (515k)

Must have really been helped by the deal with comps falling from yesterday.  Looking like somewhere between 550k and 700k at the moment.

House Party T-0 comps

 - Easter Sunday - .488x (244k)

 - Violent Night - .229x (252k)

 - Massive Talent - .232x (162k)

 - Bobs Burgers - .099x (148k)

Hopefully we'll get a number for this.  I'll go with 250k for now.

All movies - 662k

Finished right in the middle of my range from this morning.  Expecting pretty good walkups so I'll go with 700k true Thu previews.  EA was in around 300 theaters so that will help.

Any word on if this is accurate? Maybe it's just me, but from a look around, this really doesn't look like a 3k+ theater opener at all. From what I recall, Sony required Regal to limit the mystery movie showing of this to specific markets because of how Sony didn't plan to open it this wide on opening weekend. There's even locations that don't seem to be getting it until the 27th, in fact.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Maybe there was a dramatic shift in the release strategy. Just seems off to me.

This made me curious so I ran a few numbers on my T-1 week showtime reports to look at multiples to final TC.  I'm seeing Missing in 1,446 theaters at the moment.  Here are some that were near that range a week before release and where they ended up.

Malignant - 1,363 - 3,485

CopShop - 1,519 - 3,005

Father Stu - 1,388 - 2,705

She Said - 1,375 - 2,022

Antlers - 1,504 - 2,800

A Man Called Otto - 1,376 - 3,802!

I could see it getting to 3k by next weekend.

Thanks for the rundown! I'll then have to assume Sony made a switch-in-plan somewhere, it seems odd for all of those pre-existing circumstances to be in place only for a super-saturated wide release to occur regardless. Obviously theaters get added on week-of all the time, but the mystery movie thing and the theater listings for the 27th were what threw me off.
