So guys, I need a little help if possible.

I am considering (will depend if I will have enough time outside college and job) to start tracking some major releases here in Brazil, since it's a thing that no one does over here yet and That Waluigi Dude provides basically all data of Brazil box office by himself and he does a great job at it, but I think it would be nice to give the Brazil thread more information and interactivity. So I want to ask some advices you might know for a beginner like me. Is it difficult to run a script for it? Where is the best place to keep the data? and those kind of things.

I would appreciate a lot the insight of the masters of tracking that we have over here.

I am not sure about your programming knowledge. May be start with learning one language you can use for it. Python or Node.js are common. There are free online courses to learn them in few hours. I would take 2-3x time while doing something. Also figure out the site your are going to get data from and see what is required and slowly try getting data for 1 show. If you can make that work, scaling it any number is easy.

Easier answer would be to ask chatgpt or bard :-)

It better be something because it would a be weird marketing choice start presales without something to announce it.

I had another source telling me this might happen, but I thought I would stick with the original posted time since that seemed more normal for Disney. Oops.

I mean I'm sure they'll have a promo up in the morning and the 12 AM start time is more just to make sure everything is secure, ready, and in place before the ads and promos roll out. Better to have something up early than something up late.

Oh, I'm sure the "official" announcement will be at the time datpepper mentioned.

FWIW, just got done setting up sheets and believe it or not, actually 19 tickets sold in the time it took me to set them up.  Which isn't bad at all, IMO, given the time here locally and it would just be some random mentions on Twitter/other social media.  In fact, I checked Twitter (or rather via the Twitter frontend Nitter since I can't search Twitter anymore [thanks Elon]) and while there's some stray mentions, doesn't look like there's an overwhelming amount of virality.

I am, obvs, gonna roll that into tomorrow's totals.

***IMPORTANT NOTE***

As I noted in the info boxes, one of the showtimes that was removed at a local theater last Tuesday was restored today, with all of the previous seats that were at the time sold, still sold (29, for the record).  Without those 29 tickets, the "real" total today, for pace purposes, was 124 seats sold.

I am very very likely going to adjust my home sheet and retroactively restore those 29 seats to last Tue's daily total and subtract it from this one.  If those other two showtimes are ever restored, probably do the same for them.  I very likely will not be adjusting the charts in my posts here for the last six days as it would be a gigantic PITA to do so, especially the comp boxes.

If folks are monitoring this on their own (for curve/pace purposes), just subtract 29 from today (T-10) and restore it to T-16's entry.

As I noted earlier today, while I was checking out various things out, I discovered that a couple of theaters locally added the GOTG Marathon sometime in the last couple of weeks.  Those two showtimes accounted for 79 tickets sold at the time of discovery and were separated out of the daily total and put in a separate infobox.

At the time, this adjusted the comps upward by approx .25m, which isn't much but isn't nothing, either.

Now we see what, if any, effect CinemaCon might bring...

Just thinking out loud .... Little Mermaid is probably going to be a difficult film to comp. While a family film at its core, there is also going to be a sizeable adult - likely female skewing and therefore earlier buying - audience, especially for Thursday shows

The early sales should be sufficiently high that it won't be able to match the high pace (growth) towards the end like pure animation of Minions & Mario (those comps will likely be LOL high), or even Sonic or Ghostbusters. The comps in the next range down are off-genre and may have different market behavior (likes of JWD, Scream VI, Black Adam, etc), and could even skew low into CBM/Avatar 2/TGM range, depending on how the adult vs family share ultimately lands

Hopefully the pace in the mid-weeks illuminates what comps it is trending towards, as the range of outcomes from initial sales burst is probably going to be very wide

I took a look at the 6 closest Cineplex theatres near me to see how many showtimes opened up for next Thursday.

Usually, for advance sales, only limited showtimes are available ( usually the plf screens though). When they get to a few days before the weekend, they finalize all schedules up to the Thursday.

Anecdotally, for my theatre, it feels less than other big recent Marvel releases, but, I never tracked. The bigger, 24 screen theatre has 18 showtimes, which drives a lot of it.

Before it opened up, there were 28 showtimes across the 6 theatres. It's now up to 51.

The one closest to me is an 8 screen theatre, and probably the smallest in the area. It only has 3 showtimes. Interestingly, it's in one theater with just an 8pm showing and no showings after, as they've avoided having shows end too late, likely due to staffing issues.
