On a serious note this is my number 1 movie of the summer in regards to anticipation. I am out at least 3 weeks leading to release week of this movie. Hope to see this at Metreon Imax in full glory.

Universal's also no doubt really banking on Oppenheimer doing well because their 2023 slate's about to dry up for the rest of the year, which they're probably allowed following Mario and the overseas monster Fast X. This is what they have left:

These Super Bowl ads 4 months prior to release are such a waste of money. I doubt these ads are of much value anyways in today’s internet era but four months before release is just idiotic.

Universal opened Nope sales to coincide with the trailer being the lead-in to all JWD screens

It’s just an old school mentality of shotgun advertising, getting as many eyeballs as possible, casting a wide - and often expensive - net. For a lot that Universal gets right, this strategy is not one of them 

 

Can argue Disney does the same, but they 1) usually advertise (digitally) a new trailer drop in advance to draw people in and 2) mostly debut it during their own network affiliate programming, so it’s essentially free
