The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread (December 2021 - July 2023)

Recommended Posts

Bullet Train moving back a week means this is what the rest of the summer IMAX/PLF schedule looks like now:

May 27: Top Gun

June 10: Jurassic World

June 17: Lightyear

July 1: Minions

July 8: Thor

July 22: Nope

August 5: Bullet Train

Dolby Cinema only:

May 20: Downton Abbey (select locations)

June 24: Elvis/The Black Phone (also perhaps select locations for both depending on how big Lightyear is, though The Black Phone seems likely to take the last show of the day either way).

July 29: Super-Pets? (not confirmed but one has to imagine it will now, might also split IMAX screens with Nope for daytime shows only)

Firestarter, counted today at 11am EST for today:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 30 (3 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 8 (2 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 11 (2 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 4 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 16 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 34 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 68 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 171.

Up 19% since yesterday.
Comp: The Forever Purge (1.3M from previews) had also on Thursday of its release week 241 sold tickets for Thursday = would be 0.9M but The Forever Purge had the better Thursday jump so the preview number of Firestarter should be a bit lower.

Firestarter, counted today at the same time for tomorrow:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 40 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 4 (8 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 3 (5 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 0 (3 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 3 (5 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 36 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 58 (6 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 144.

Up 25% since yesterday.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Friday): Old (16.9M OW) had 500 sold tickets in 7 theaters,

Malignant (5.4M OW) had 237 sold tickets also in 7 theaters (but that film was probably less of a walk-up film)

and The Night House (2.9M OW) had 90 sold tickets in 6 theaters (no showtimes in the AMC Lakeline).

I would say 3M OW is a bit too low and would go with 5M.

Family Camp had today 8 sold tickets for Thursday and 0 for Friday with showtimes only in the AMCs Sunset Place and Grand Rapids.

I can not get over this supposedly super serious horror movie unironically using that quote. Freddy Kreuger would think that line is stupid.

Its hilarious. You'd think someone in the production team would have realized how corny that line is.

They haven't even promoted Firestarter. I don't think they are expecting it to be received well.
