I'd say chest buster scene is the only violent scene there and it makes sense, everything else was mostly off-screen violence.

Which was a deliberate choice by Scott. He wanted a suspense film, not an action film.

Cameron took the opposite track in Aliens 2.

Rewatching 1-4 for the first time in a long time.

Loved Alien & Aliens, but just finished Alien3 and it’s one of the worst films I’ve seen in a long time.

Checked Letterboxd and I had rated it a 3 on memory of seeing it as a kid. Changed to a 1/5 now. It was abysmal.

I prefer rewatching Alien3 over the first film. I love its suffocating atmosphere, production design, characters and themes, with all its production flaws and imperfections in mind.  I find Nostromo's crew kind of boring, to be honest. There's nothing deep about the characters. It works perfectly fine for a horror/thriller as it is, I know, it's a groundbreaking si fi, and Scott's direction is fantastic, the production design is fascinating, Ripley is great, but I need more for rewatchability.

Alien 2 (Aliens) Is the best in my honest opinion. Putting in that cocky Army unit made the film interesting. They got absolutely cooked lmao! I enjoyed that

It's very engaging,  with lots of characters to root for in the second half. So many iconic scenes.

For now Andy is the main reason to rewatch Romulus. Zero gravity and shaft scenes as well (though Andy's final line there ruined it for me)

Oh that’s interesting to hear. I think it’s biggest mistake was choosing characters that aren’t engaging because we have zero empathy or sympathy for them because of what they’ve done. And they all look exactly the same, so there was no reaction when they died.

The crazy criminals and murdurers are there not for our empathy. That's making it interesting. For the first half of the movie they are part of hostile invirement for Ripley, a real threat. But also the prisoners are literally sinners in hell, meeting their punishment, but some of them might get their redemption. And I'm not religious person btw )

I find charecters memorable as well. The doctor (ex-prisoner), the religious leader, an inmate, who obsessed with "dragon" (Golic, mostly from Assembly Cut), the warden' assisant with low IQ -  all of them are more interesting than Nostromo's crew for me.

I found them all insufferable and because of their history, couldn’t engage with them. But I love hearing different takes.

saw prometheus

was very cool at times, but it did feel like the first 40 minutes out of a 2 1/2-hour epic

everything everyone said about it feeling underwritten is also true, but I'm willing to watch covenant

My late reaction. Romulus looked and sounded great, liked the characters for the most part. What was negative for me was some of the pacing (e.g. the ridiculous growth rate of the aliens) and a couple of times the fan service was just too on the nose (e.g. "get away from her"). Some questionable moments, too (e.g. elevator shaft).

No home run but a solid entry, nonetheless. 7/10
