Because, I've always been told a movie has to double its budget WW to breakeven. If that's the case JC needed 700m, it fell over 400m short of that.

That double the budget thing is definitely not an exact science, heh.

Still, JC is a mighty big bomb. Considering its budget, it is a huge embarrassment for Disney. Luckily, they have a big slate ahead of them.

I though I read somewhere that Disney is gonna lose 180-200m for John Carter. And they lost a crap load of money on Mars Needs Moms last year. Disney is lucky they have Avengers and Brave this summer to save some face.

I'm pretty sure they're meant to cover the marketing costs, but I doubt this'll sell well on DVD/ Bluray.

Yeah, strong DVD sales for JC are doubtful. People have been avoiding that movie like it has a STD and will probably continue to do so. Watch it be on DVD in like a month.

Leave John Carter alone. We already had enough fun with it. It bombed, the DVD/Bluray sales will be terrible since the movie collapsed since the already terrible 30M OW.

I never saw John Carter, but I still don't entirely understand why so many folks like to shit on it... I don't remember Mars Needs Moms getting so much crap. Ehh.. whatever. I digress.. it's still been a great 2012 so far barring a couple of disappointments.

JC is an averige movie. Not a trainwreck like Battlefield Earth or B&R. It`s getting too much press for something so ordinary. I don`t get it either.

From the makers of POTC hurt even more. That smacked of desperation and POTC cred has been fairly low in North America since AWE.
