Father’s Day/Juneteenth Weekend Thread | Flash implodes with 55M, Elemental bombs with 29M, holdovers hold atrociously | Theaters are dead, streaming is dead. Everything is dead really.

A lot of heads are going to roll after this weekend. What a lousy time. Flash and Elemental flopped, Transformers also got fucked by losing premium screens to said flops, and even Spider-Verse 2 suffered a steep drop this weekend.

Transformers especially sucks, because this raises the chances of next year's animation being dumped on Paramount+ and the franchise dying for another decade until a Michael Bay-like auteur decides he wants to do something with it. I'll never see a big budget buckethead Megatron in my lifetime, will I?

What is special about number 55?

“a triangular number (the sum of the consecutive numbers 1 to 10), and a doubly triangular number. the 10th Fibonacci number. It is the largest Fibonacci number to also be a triangular number.”

At least it’s got that going for it.

The Boogeyman actually held on ok despite losing 1,000+ locations. Decent for Little Mermaid and GOTG3.

Bad for both Flash and Elemental, two big flops in the one weekend.

Is there a reason Spider Verse isn’t seeing the same jump from the first film internationally as it is in the US?

Just now, Napoleon said:

They just shouldn't have panicked after BVS. Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League was well reviewed and loved by audiences. If they only have had more faith in the original plan, they would've had a great 2017 with Justice League also being a hit. If WB wasn't happy with the numbers the DCEU was getting back then, and thinking they should be making billion dollar movies, they should have made a more reasonable, long-term course correction, gradually making them more MCU-like, instead of the U-turn they took that made them release bomb after bomb after bomb.

WB made a mistake by trying to overcorrect the DCEU after BvS, but you're crazy if you think that Zack Snyder's Justice League would have faired any better back in 2017. Even if he hadn't left the project, WB was always going to keep Snyder on a tight leash after the negative reaction to BvS. No way they were allowing a 4 hour movie to be released in theaters.

Didn't matter which cut came out back then, it was always going to pay for the sins of BvS.

Flash - terrible

Elemental -  beyond terrible

The Blackening - below expectations

ATSV - poor hold

Transformers - terrible

TLM - also a poor hold

GOTG3 - very good despite new competition and losing screens

Boogeyman - decent

Fast X - meh

Mario - had its legs sawn off by the new movies

Honestly one of the worst performing weekends I've ever seen
