Smile 2 looking to break through Terrifier 3's buzz...

Smile 2 has been declared the $5 TMobile/Atom movie...it should help this one a lot from current minscule presales and buzz...

Starts Tuesday

(The rumor was it was gonna be Venom 3, but I guess Joker 2 tanking made that unnecessary)...

Do those Tmbobile things really make a difference? It didn't seem to help Challengers

As always, it's very movie dependent...tired sequels targeting men 18-45 do the best...it's why Venom 3 was the suspected movie...movies targeting women 40+ and under 12 (like Margaret last year) get no bennies...and there has to be a "fence-sitting" group that would want to go to your movie, but doesn't want to pay full price...if there's no interest, nothing helps...

Movies that benefited the most - Creed 3, John Wick 4, Across the Spider-verse, Beekeeper, Bob Marley...

That said, you can always see the effect through the weekend - any TMobile deal doesn't usually help Thursdays that much, but you'll see great Friday, Saturday, and Sunday attendance (even into Monday and Tuesday) b/c the codes can be used at any point the 1st week for presales through Monday night...so folks will buy when they want a $5 movie...aka, Thursday multiplier to weekend multiplier tends to exceed the norm for its movie type...

Saturday night status for Joker 2 open caption sales. (So far, Friday + Saturday final sales data is available). Since last weekend's final ticket to screentime ratio was 6.54 and the zero sold percentage was 9.42%, expecting the current 2.75 t to s ratio to increase slightly but stay below 5.00, and the zero sold percentage to reduce slightly but still be high (maybe 30 percent).  Theaters won't be able to drop this quickly enough; perhaps their contracts need to have a clause that allows a film to be dropped after only one weekend if it does poorly enough. Forcing theaters to play a film that does this poorly, for two weeks, actually hurts the theaters when they have to waste auditoriums that could otherwise be used to show more successful films. The only reason Joker 2 was #1 last weekend is because it benefited from being the "new kid on the block." It is not the new kid anymore, and that's reflected in the data.

Oh not the Lionsgate deal! 😅

This is tracking about $20-27m, so let’s see if this helps it go beyond that. Hope it does.

But are its current presales indicating that?  Folks here seemed to think tracking and current presales were not lining up...so this should help make sure Smile 2 does not disappoint...

I am, too, unless this will be a surprise month with 2 TMobile deals...it hasn't happened all year - I think the Creed 3/John Wick 4 combo was the last time they did 2 in the same month, and they were not back to back weeks.

I think so, $2-3m previews would indicate an opening in the 20’s for a film like this. Hopefully this pushes it to 30.

Still doing pretty good over in Las Vegas. I’m expecting this to do quite well in its final week. Especially with the T-Mobile deal. Anecdotally speaking, here in The Netherlands, the first Smile sold out theaters that were empty a day beforehand.

Final Joker 2 numbers for this past weekend. Some theaters dropped open caption screentimes, so the total number of screenings is lower now. However, the final results show Joker 2 did not even make it to a 5.00 ticket to screentime ratio. And as expected in the previous post, the zero sold percentage was well past 20%. (Wicked update: now 103 screentimes documented, with 214 tickets sold. T to S ratio of 2.08 and it is still very early.)
