I kinda doubt that David movie meets that date if they're still crowdfunding it, lmao

Definitely not gonna be something that'll compete with Zootopia for mainstream interest if they've only got a year+ max to work on it

It's been fully funded for, I assume, months. The crowdsourcing funding option isn't fully funded but the actual SEC filings tell a story where that's not the funding option. Preferred funding options != only funding options. It's a definition game that's only apparent on closer inspection. I dove into these Angel studios related SEC filings due to the whole shitshow between them and The Chosen. Here's David's "semianual report" covering up to June 30, 2023

The Company requires funding for operational, production, and advertising costs, collectively called the "Running cost," until the DAVID movie and the Young DAVID series are released and generate revenue. The Young DAVID series will be released monthly from November 2023 to March 2024. We currently estimate the movie will be released in August 2025, and the total running cost till then amounts to $61.5 million. The Company has raised funding of $45.4 million, which includes $3 million under a signed expression of interest. The Company also has a binding subscription agreement to call up to $10.6 million1 from Slingshot Productions Limited. To cover the entire $61.6 million Running cost, the Company must find funding for the remaining $4.9 million. The live funding update via Regulation A+ is visible at www.thedavidmovie.com.

We have interest in funding that management believes will be closed out within the next few months, however it is not certain that it will come to fruition. The Company has a subscription agreement to call up to $10.6 million Preferred Unit from Slingshot Productions Limited. We prefer to raise the $10.6 million via Regulation A+ funding (or other investments), and we have the option to call the subscription agreement if we are not able to raise the $10.6 million via Regulation A+ funding or other investments. We believe we will receive this by the end of 2023, although no assurance can be provided.

54M + 10.6M = 64.6M. This film is fully funded, having raised over $4.9M in the intervening period, it's not funded partially through loans. They're behind their fundraising goal.

They've also apparently just wrapped up a "Young DAVID" series which clearly has work intended to serve both projects (and whose profits, if my quick glance is correct, would first g to cover the funding shortfall).

The distributor, Angel Studios, will raise post-production marketing of the DAVID movie, which could amount to $26 million, or more, depending on the success of the film.

which is substantial for an indie but going to be significantly below the big tentpoles they're comparing themselves to.

Meanwhile, Angel Studios just had their presentation for those interested (nothing they announced is something I'm interested in seeing).

Do you guys think Disney will release any trailer/teaser today? Last year they released the Wish teaser, so Moana 2 might be an option. (Or they hold that one until Inside Out 2)

Most likely Mufasa: The Lion King. The promotion for that seems ready to begin, and would make perfect sense as one of Disney's attachments with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in less than a month.

Feels like Paramount is the only studio that truly went all out for this this year (Disney's presentation later pending). But that probably should've been expected given the impact of the strikes were going to be felt.

I think that part of it was to calm people down due to the sales talks. Swinging for the fences is a good way of doing it

@misterpepp called it first

Curious how much it could make if they do a full blown re-release. It's the Nolan film with the most cult following and has gained more love since the initial release.
