SPECTRE | 11/6/15 | Final Trailer on Page 126! | Twitter reactions coming in, STID 2.0?

Gotta say, the final Thursday night sellout update for the LA area isn't exactly thrilling. I think $5m might be the optimistic guess.

Final: 4 sellouts / 265 showtimes

THOR 2 had 1 sellout and 300 showtimes.

MAD MAX had 4 sellouts and 228 showtimes.

GODZILLA had 1 sellout and 336 showtimes.

EDGE OF TOMORROW had 1 sellout and 231 showtimes.

The break even was suggested by Variety to be $650m supposing the budget was $250m and the marketing $100m. That budget number is in dispute, courtesy of the e-mails (mid 300ms) and that math seems a bit off even with a $250m budget.

The largest single expense in the budget is the up front producers fee - somehow I don't think Barbara is cutting that unless it's the only way they can get another studio deal.  The Bond deal for Sony is not that financially lucrative. They come in a distant third in making a profit off these movies to MGM and EON.

Sony knew this when they negotiated the deal to co-fund and distribute Skyfall and Spectre and I imagine other studios who are interested in gaining Bond likely know that as well.

The excitement and buzz which was present for Skyfall is missing for SPECTRE, especially with them playing the STID card of is he or isn't he in the marketing.

Skyfall is a major outlier for Bond though. Looks like SPECTRE will come back to normal Bond movie levels.

Well, at least Craig will be at worst 2 for 4. Something Brosnan can't claim. Here are the rest of the Bond Actors and how they fared(according to RT users)

Craig 2 for 3(.667); Casino Royale, Skyfall(Spectre pending user reaction)

Brosnan 1 for 4(.250); Goldeneye(I would add TWINE)

Dalton 1 for 2(.500); The Living Daylights(I think he was 2 for 2)

Moore 3 for 7(.429); Live & Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only

Lazenby 1 for 1(1.000); On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Connery 5 for 7(.714); only Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again keep him from a perfect score.

Oh Jesus, look at all this doom-mongering. Could we at least get through a single weekend before the panic? Or maybe even past the first Mon. and Tues.? It's Thursday fucking night. We know the Bond crowd aren't all teenagers. I'm going with 30-something friends a week from now because we avoid opening weekends for movies like this.

And another point. The domestic/foreign split on Skyfall was 28/72. This is a franchise for which America matters less than Americans imagine. The UK and Australia together will do $200 mil on Spectre. And that's just the Anglosphere -- the $60 mil Skyfall did in China is ripe to be doubled.

Spectre will do fine.

Sure to be controversial opinion: Film would've been a lot better if Batista was the full villain all the way through. His scenes belonged to a much better film than the rest of this one.

I actually kind of agree with this. His portion of the movie was by far the best part.
