SPECTRE | 11/6/15 | Final Trailer on Page 126! | Twitter reactions coming in, STID 2.0?

Recommended Posts

I did a Pierce Brosnan Bond marathon last week and boy...Goldeneye didn't age well...  The gun sound effects remind me of cheap westerns, the goofiness in Q's office is almost as serious as Jar Jar the Great Binks, the elevator music during the opening chase  really doesn't fit with the pace of the movie...The only redeeming factor is Famke Janssen.

Tomorrow never Dies was back on the right track though.

Daniel Craig, who plays 007 in the movie, will be joined by French actress Lea Seydoux, the latest Bond Girl, and producer Barbara Broccoli on a three-day tour in China starting this Tuesday.

The crew are expected to participate in a series of promotion activities for "Spectre," culminating in the movie's premiere in China mainland on Thursday.

So Spectre was solid.  Not another Casino Royale or Skyfall, but still good.  I know for a lot of people on the internet everything is seen as either great or terrible, but this movie isn't gonna be seen as a miss.  I hope Daniel Craig comes back for 1 more movie.

Hey, as has been stated before, this site is full of bipolor manic depressives. It's either great or lousy, a huge hit or a huge bomb, the idea of "good, not great" and "will make good,if not great, profit" is foreign to a lot of people here .

That so many were expecting SPECTRE to do as well or even better then SKYFALL Just shows how unrelistic they are. Nobody in the industry..including SONY..expected that.

But SPECTER will make a lot of money, and I suspect Craig will be back for one more run before hanging up the Licence to Kill.

I enjoys SPECTRE,but though it was overlong, that the homages to the classic Bond films got a little tired after a while, and

Spoiler

that Mendes becomine Anthony Mann with the whole fraticidal brothers plotline..shades of Winchester 73.....did not quite work

but over all a good entry in the series.

So Stan Smith like Madonna's crappy "Die Another Day" title song? No wonder that "Writing On the Wall" sucks . But neither of those ,though they are both crappy, are as downright terrible as "Another Way To Die" from "Quantum Of Solace". Worst Bond theme song ever.

Sony barely made any profit on Skyfall. The producers (Eon) were the real winners with that one.

Sony made $57m off  a 1.1b film....

The Sony/EON/MGM deal is really lopsided.  They aren't even in on the DVD market - MGM has FOX distibute.

Instead of half the budget though this time they're only providing 25% though they still have the marketing and distribution costs.

Quote

. In an email last October, Andrew Gumpert, who heads Sony's business affairs, predicted that if Spectre grosses $1.1 billion worldwide, and assuming a budget between $250 million and $275 million, Sony would realize about $35 million.

Spectre is most could make $200m less than that so where does that leave Sony in terms of profit?

Sony really needs better negotiators. They willingly gave up the Spider-Man merchandise rights at the peak of Spidey's popularity as well. The people running the studio don't seem to want to make any profits.

And since SPECTRE is the last film under the current contract Eon has with Sony, it will be interesting to see how much SONY wants to keep Bond.

Thing about Bond is that SONY..and the other film companies...might feel that the prestige of 007,and that it is such a great tentpole for your other films might make BOnd valuable even if you don't make  a lot off of the films themselves. Amd SONY will not lose any money on a Bond film.

Sony might very will lose money on this film if they though they were only getting $35m if this made $1.1b.

A part of the deal  MGM also seeks to be let into co-financing deals other studio films.  Sony for instance cut them in for the Jump Streets and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  Sony lost profit on the Jump Streets sharing financing with MGM but buffered losses with Tattoo.   So the question is, is the co-financing deal worth it for Sony to continue and is at all attractive to other studios like WB and Paramount?   Do they want to let MGM in on their deals?

Guaranteed, EON will get offers from other studios.

I am also betting that word has already gone out from Barbara to really crack down on costs with the next Bond film. That is what her daddy CUbby did when profits were down because of high costs and budget overruns. Classic example is how he really rode heard and cut costs...though not to the point,of course, of making the film look cheap...on For Your Eyes Only after Moonraker, despite being one of the biggest grossing Bond films to date...earned less in profits then The Spy Who Loved Me because of the huge costs.

Barbara is the one that needs to be cracked down on in regards to costs.  She was the one resistant in all those e-mails from Sony and MGM.  Maybe she needs to partner with or at least be open to advice from a new producer who knows how to control a budget more.  Did the car "chase" really need 8 especially built Aston Martins to be trashed?  Did the plot or action even demand all those very expensive location changes?

All good points, but the real question is whether it's actually a Bond movie if they don't crash 8 of the most expensive cars in world?
