HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S was rereleased in China this weekend and earned 6.6M. The worldwide total is now 1.031M. The movie jumps from rank 52nd to 49th worldwide, passing ALICE IN WONDERLAND, ZOOTOPIA, and FINDING DORY in the process.

Let’s hope BOM updates it eventually. More extra lifetime box office cash for Harry Potter. 💁🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️

Bet Harry Potter fans will be happy about this.

I wonder, how does this updating work? Do studios automatically update sites like BOM and give them the figures, or BOM has to contact them for updates? Because even for recent releases, 2023 for example, you know some numbers aren't final because they end with "zeroes" which indicate that they are just estimates. They have been like that for more than a year.

The other seven movies are also getting rereleases, btw.

Who knows exactly? 🤷🏻‍♀️

That's part of it, not quite explaining why BB and Transformers had weaker jumps than usual though. I was surprised to see BB and Transformers in the 50s they're usually in the 60s or 70s. Not really sweating over it though since the weekend itself still is holding strong for all of them per estimates. Business might be shifting around due to the holiday Monday, or it's just one of those days where the numbers are what they are and we move on.

The Monday holiday likely had some effect (in that some school districts baked in a Fri holiday too), plus Saturday was a big college football day.
But more broadly now that we’re into October, there are more Spooky/Fall events happening on weekends, which serves to limit Sat increases, particularly for family audiences. Once a year events take precedence over movies, available year-round. Paw Patrol from last year shows those variations from October past Halloween into November fairly well

Hopefully we get another DOM re-releases of all the Harry Potter films in the future. Like a theatrical marathon as we saw with all the Spider-Man films and the LOTR-trilogy. Would be great if Sorcerer’s Stone gets past $320M+ DOM. Currently at $318.8M in lifetime gross.

Make it global, please.

So with Terrifier making 19mil instead of 18.2mil, have any of the other movies currently in circulation gone up or down box office wise from the previously reported numbers?

Nope no updates for any other movies yet. They will trickle in over the next few hours.

Harry Potter only worked because of Hogwarts and a very specific story about this orphan, the scar, Voldemort killed his parents etc.. It's a Little bit Tolkien, Dickens and Cinderella.

People loved the characters not the universe if not for the magic school.

The prequel saga was a flop cause when you go outside of that all the supposed Little universe of Harry, Hermione, Ron and the school is one of the most bland and derivative thing i ever seen. There wasn't a single special thing.

Everything doesn't involve Harry, Hermione, snape as professor etc.. It's gonna flop...

I guess Warner got It since It killed the prequel saga and all the talked about spin offs for the television and it's just doing the original saga again

If you were even an older teen in the late 90s you'd realize the Harry Potter push was really a triumph of marketing and the books were never super original. It's just they were VERY aggressively marketed to young people and they then developed this idea that it was "part of their culture" rather than just some book they read in elementary/middle school and enjoyed.
