>Frozen ties the record for Most-Consecutive Weeks at #1 with 16, matching Spirited Away.  Over the weekend, it earned ¥274,384,350 ($2.7 million) with 204,445 admissions, down -25%.

 

After 108 days in release, it has grossed ¥24.25 billion ($237.9 million) with 19.06 million admissions.  It's ¥1.95 billion away from overtaking Titanic to become the 2nd highest-grossing film of all-time, and 440,000 admissions away from overtaking Tokyo Olympiad to become the 2nd most-attended film of all-time.  

 

>Transcendence becomes Johnny Depp's lowest opener in over a decade (excluding The Rum Diary), but it was also the least marketed (I also don't think Depp made a trip to Japan this time, his first non-appearance since Public Enemies I believe) having to settle with Pony Canyon (small independent distributor) picking it up after it bombed everywhere else.  

 

Over the weekend, it grossed ¥117,953,700 ($1.1 million) with 85,845 admissions on 535 screens.  It should have a total a little over ¥500 million ($5.1/5.2 million).  

 

>Thirst was close behind taking in ¥112,280,900 ($1.1 million) with 83,420 admissions on 303 screens.  

 

>Noah exceeded the ¥1 billion ($10 million) milestone after three weeks in release, making it Paramount's first film since Jack Reacher back in Feb. 2013(!) to reach the mark.

 

>The Grudge: The End of the Beginning failed to match the debuts of the two 3D films released in 2012/2013.  Playing on 122 screens, it earned ¥85,758,200 ($845,000) with 65,664 admissions.  

 

>Ghost in the Shell manages a Top 10 debut despite playing on just 23 screens.

Maleficent should do well, Disney + Jolie is a strong selling point.  I doubt it goes below $30 million, but reaching $50 million is likely out of reach.

 

Edge of Tomorrow should beat Oblivion, and I'm expecting $20/25 million.

 

Godzilla is a wild card.  It could bomb (sub-$20 million), but I think $30/40 million is doable.  It's really hard to say at this point.

Just be very very glad Disney botched the DVD/bluray release dates and didn't let Frozen run for another 4-6 weeks while it was still banking $12 million weeks.  Spirited Away would have gone down in flames.  lol.  It would have been EPIC on here.
