TS3 still too high, people could be disappointed.TASM2 could hit it hard.MU is the target,90-95m would be absolutely crazy

Its already going to be at 90 when TASM2 opens. Japan is not a front loaded market. Both movies can thrive at same time. Different demo too. Frozen is crazy! Edited by mfantin65

*Not enough data on Titanic, Star Wars Episode I, Bayside Shakedown, Armageddon or anything before 1998 to be included.

Interesting week coming up. Mon is the last day before price hike.Tues has 100yen increase but is a discount day. Wed, the biggest admission day, ladies pay 1100yen/$11 instead of 1000.Labas, what's the discount on the first and I assume the discount is increased by the hike.

Does data exist that you don't have access to?

Besides total figures, I don't have anything like weekly figures before Mid-1998.  I only have figures for Princess Mononoke because older new articles updated its total once in awhile since it was on track to become the highest-grossing film of all time (which it did).

It is quite unfortunate that nothing is available on Titanic during the majority of its performance, but it was still in the Top 10 in its 36th week of release.   Well, it could have fallen out of the Top 10 and resurfaces again after sweeping the Oscars, which I'm confident in thinking that's why.

Interesting week coming up. Mon is the last day before price hike. Tues has 100yen increase but is a discount day. Wed, the biggest admission day, ladies pay 1100yen/$11 instead of 1000. Labas, what's the discount on the first and I assume the discount is increased by the hike.

Discount days will also increased by 100 yen (~$1).  So this Tuesday everyone will be paying 1,100 instead of 1,000, and women will have to pay 1,100 instead of 1,000 every Wednesday now, too.

Overall, I don't think the hike will have a major impact on the box-office.  I just think people will start going to the theaters more on discount days more than they do even now.

Oh yea, forgot to mention that Frozen became Walt Disney Animation's highest-grossing film of all-time on Sunday!  It only took 17 (maybe 16) days to finally dethrone Dinosaur (4.9 billion).

Dinosaur? Really? Did Japan not care about The Lion King or something?

It only took Frozen 16/17 days to become Walt Disney's highest-grossing animated film of all-time, but Dinosaur held that record for nearly 14 years!

Frozen will end up more than doubling Dinosaur's total.

With such a favorable exchange rate, it's a shame we'll never truly know what heights Tangled might have potentially reached.
