JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

I will forever hate VOD and will never buy one. The quality of all VODs are crap compared to an actual Blu-ray disc. We need 1GBPS internet speed to stream Blu-ray type quality on VODs seamlessly (The VOD servers should be equally capable to have millions of users connected to it streaming at 1GBPS). With 4k and 4k 3D content on Blu-ray planned to be released at a commercial scale in the near future, studios will be using the next generation Blu-rays discs which may be upto 300GB in sizehttp://www.techradar.com/news/television/50gb-blu-ray-not-cutting-it-sony-panasonic-working-on-a-300gb-optical-disc-1169444

I hate on-demand and digital download bit rates at the moment, but I wouldn't say I'd hate it forever... eventually digital bit rates should catch up to those of Blu-ray discs once fiber Internet becomes more prevalent and the cost of storage comes down... but both those markets appear to be taking their sweet, sweet time.

I'm surprised to hear they're working on a 300GB Blu-ray format, though, especially when Sony announced years ago their development of a violet laser technology that could fit 1TB on a typically sized 12cm disc. If they stop pushing for stop-gap technologies, they can put their resources to the groundbreaking tech and get it to industries and consumers sooner.

4.4- 4.6m

Anyone know what the 14th weekend record is? I'm sure Frozen will have it since the old 12th weekend record was just ¥395. For that matter, what was the 13th weekend record? We never got that last weekend either, although we know Frozen has that too.

I assume SA has the weekend records from here on out. Frozen will take this weekend and should have next one too. Edited by T E Lawrence

if you take a look at google earth at Haiti and the The Dominican republic where the fence is that divides the island. Lush green to the east of the fence. 150 years ago, a TDR dictator heard about japan and made sure the jungle stayed intact w selective cutting. Haiti clear cut. Today TDR thrives and Haiti is a freaking mess.

To be fair, that's far from the only difference between the two, and is more an effect of Haiti's troubles than a cause.  You can't save for the future when you're already starving in the present.  (Short synopsis of Haiti's history: everything a colonial power can do to screw over an ex-colony was done to Haiti.)

Lame argument. they took over the colony 200 years ago. The DR was also a former colony and independent for 160 years. The DR was actually a part of Haiti for 20 years. Haitians weren't starving 160 years ago. Haiti mismanaged their resources, the DR didn't. Same island, same resources, same circumstances but a well thought out approach makes the DR a much more livable place.Easter island cut down all their trees. No colonialist intervened there. They did it all by themselves. Then 30000 people starved. By the time Spain discovered it there were just 1500 malnurioused people living in caves on a morbid looking island that was once paradise.Humans are our own worst enemy. Japan's next matches are, local time, on the 20th (friday) and the 25th (wednesday). I think next weekend it could stay flat if not increase a bit.

Being on weekdays, it will have minimum impact this time, or that's what I'm hoping.

Well, if Japan continues to play like they did in the 2nd half of the first game we won't have to worry about the effect of the WC beyond those next 2 games.Posted Image

LOL. So true. Still rooting for Japan though. I have a personal connection with that country.

Anyway, how much did Frozen make last week?

Do you guys think it will be first again next weekend?

Chances are that Frozen will be number one again this weekend , although it is slowing down...

300  rise of an empire....limited audience group....unless Frozen suffers from a very huge drop....

Saint Seiya (animation ) only screens in some theaters...

Corpse:

Weekend Estimates [06/14-15]01 (01) ¥422 million ($4.1 million), -29%, ¥23.10 billion ($226.5 million), Frozen (Disney) Week 1402 (--) ¥289 million ($2.8 million), 0, ¥335 million ($3.3 million), Noah (Paramount) DEBUT03 (--) ¥119 million ($1.1 million), 0, Climbing to Spring (Toho) DEBUT04 (02) ¥76 million ($750,000), -45%, ¥875 million ($8.6 million), X-Men: Days of Future Past (Fox) Week 305 (03) ¥74 million ($730,000), -42%, ¥720 million ($7.1 million), Monsterz (Warner Bros.) Week 306 (04) ¥58 million ($570,000), -40%, ¥930 million ($9.1 million), A Bolt from the Blue (Toho) Week 407 (06) ¥43 million ($420,000), -42%, ¥450 million ($4.4 million), All-Around Appraiser Q: Mona Lisa's Eye (Toho) Week 308 (10) ¥41 million ($400,000), +06%, ¥120 million ($1.1 million), The Grand Budapest Hotel (Fox) Week 209 (08) ¥31 million ($300,000), -48%, ¥4.27 billion ($41.9 million), Thermae Romae II (Toho) Week 810 (05) ¥29 million ($280,000), -62%, ¥160 million ($1.5 million), Pompeii (Gaga) Week 211 (07) ¥29 million ($275,000), -56%, ¥150 million ($1.4 million), Need for Speed (Disney) Week 212 (09) ¥28 million ($270,000), -52%, ¥130 million ($1.2 million), Persona 3 the Movie 2: A Midsummer Knight's Dream (Aniplex) Week 213 (--) ¥19 million ($180,000), 0, Go to Hawaii!! (Toei) DEBUTA lot of rough rough drops this weekend. Japan's World Cup match this weekend is the likely culprit for most of them. >Frozen remains on top for a 14th-consecutive weekend, now tying with Armageddon for the second most-consecutive weeks at #1. Spirited Awayachieved 16-consecutive weeks at #1, which Frozen looks like it'll match but not beat. Its weekend and weekly drops are also increasing, and once it falls out of first place, it'll begin to shed screens pretty quickly since it'll also coincide with the DVD release next month and many of July's blockbuster releases. It'll still most likely surpass Titanic's ¥26.2 billion total to become the #2 film all-time (and it'll still reach 20 million in admissions for the #2 spot there, too), but reaching Spirited Away's ¥30.4 billion and 23.5 million admissions is becoming increasingly difficult. >Noah did quite well for itself, and may have still hit ¥300 million (~$3 million) depending on who saw it over the weekend. Its estimated admissions are 209,000, which give it the chance at the mark. >Climbing for Spring did alright. Standard numbers for a live-action film this time of year.
