John Marston
When you take into account how the OS market is known to behave, it's not excellent, just ok. For films performing at this level sequels have been known to have similar or bigger increases than STID: RE3: 97M RE4: 236M Taken: 82M Taken 2: 236M An example of an excellent OS increase would be from Batman Begins 167M to TDK 470M, but STID increase was less than any of these so I wouldn't call it excellent. this is what makes the gross not that impressive. Hell a movie like National Treasure 2 had a bigger increase over the first worldwide without even adding something like 3D.

Sam
I don't get why Paramount or WB don't push for a mid-August releases for STID and MOS? Well, at least STID seems to be in a better position than MOS. It'll most likely make less than MOS, but it sure has a better release date. Moviedweeb
Despite the numbers not being great, this is a huge long term win. Paramount now has another premiere franchise and the sequel will make much more OS. In terms of merchandise, licensing, bluray/on demand/digital etc..., ST is a cash cow.

A Marvel Fanboy
Point: STID didnt do well OS. Should have do much better. at least 300m.
Elessar
Yes, it should have but unfortunately it didn't. It is still the biggest Trek ever worldwide, for what's it's worth.

A Marvel Fanboy
Because 300M-plus is considered good for a $200M budgeted sci-fi action sequel. At same scales, both nonsequle PR and WWZ did it. Paramount marketed the shit out of it. They even did a one-month-long World Tour to promote it. Same group of people still dont want to accept the fact STID is big disappointment both DOM and OS. They over hyped the shit out of it. And now they celebrate it as if it were a huge achivement.
