Most likely, yep, somewhere in that range.

Not bad.

Always amazes me how Avatar made $200m in early 2009-2010.

I honestly feel as though Avatar 2 will be the first film to break $1b in a single market and it will be China (so long as no interference).

The habit of going to cinema during CNY owe large to Avatar craze in 2010.

Thanks to this re-release, in the list of the highest grossing films in China Avatar has gone from 49th place to the current 33th (and should finish in the top 30)

Considering instead only foreign films, it went from 17th place to 9th and could overcome also "Jurassic World: the Fallen Kingdom" in the next weekend

Isn’t it odd there’s no GvsKong presale info?

A little. But it does`ent matter. It only matters if it responds well to the general audience, don`t get horrible reviews and bad WOM

Avatar played for 12 weeks including Chinese New Year in China as compared to allowed 2 weeks window.

Don't think any other Hollywood film was allowed that much time.

But it was on top for 10 weeks, suggest demand was genuinely there instead of some CPC propaganda to artificially prolonging its run and Avatar 2D version was only allowed for 2 weeks. By the way, Titanic too was allowed that much time in 1998

Point is that 2 weeks was allowed time, so the conspiracy that China stopped it is BS. They let it ran for 12 weeks.

We have many films including Endgame which left money on table when they weren't allowed extension.

Point is Avatar was 10 weeks on top and Endgame was at 3-5. Another point, China film bureau clearly prefer JC over marvel, which is how the thing should be. He is the one that created Titanic after all.

Dude you are going tangent. Point is that many think that Avatar was stopped by China in 2 weeks as some sort of conspiracy.

The reality being it ran for 12 seeks, much longer than normal for Hollywood back then.

They allowed avatar to show 12 weeks that is true but that doesn't falsify they did stop Avatar 2D version after 2 weeks, where it contributed 40% of the gross. Conspiracy or not it was just some pointless and oftenly unjustified way to spin it off.

because the time was up. duh.

besides 3D was what more gross was coming everywhere, not just China. so 2D screens were given to other films while 3D continued it for weeks.

Besides that 3D factor did contributed to gross. The admits of Avatar were 1.9x of 2012 or Transformers while gross was more than 3x.

2012 had a 3D release 3 years later, had another 3.5M admits.

Avatar was big in 2010, but just not that big as more than 3x gross of previous biggest suggest.

2012 with 3D had 18M admits while Avatar had 27M.

This is what I mean though, China is just far too unpredictable. All I can really say is Avatar 2 will make amazing money within the constraints given. Trying to put a number on it is pointless.
