Good hold in weekdays. Expecting 50-55M weekend for total of 1164-1169M. At higher end will cross Kong: Skull Island.

However, need to note that actual gross is still less at 992M, at end of weekend will be 1038-1043M as compared to 1094M of Kong: Skull Island.

The reported gross of GvK will beat K:SI because Post CoVID people are booking tickets online more often, so more ticket booking charges added. That said, by end of run will most likely cross K:SI actual gross too.

How extensive is LOTR's re-release in China? Each part seems to be playing only for one week so probably very limited?

Seems to be very small-scale. Currently has about 5k showings on Saturday, and will probably end up at around 6k in total. The Harry Potter and Avatar re-releases both had about 60k showings on their first Saturdays, for comparison.

There's obviously more competition at the moment with Detective Conan opening this weekend, Sister and all last week's local openers still playing, GvK, etc., but even so. I don't think the re-releases are only going to be playing for a week, though—where are you getting that from? Presales for the second/third/fourth weeks will only show up later in the run.

I read in an article that TTT will start playing a week later so i assumed it'll take screens from FOTR.

Just to update: Fellowship has actually jumped up to 20k showings on Saturday now, so more in the ballpark of the other rereleases, although still quite a bit smaller.

It ranks 4th today, but it already ranks 2nd for Saturday, just behind Detective Conan. In fact, FOTR's presales figure for tomorrow has nearly matched the current Friday's gross. But yes, still low numbers.

China’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ Re-Release Rollout Marred By Chaos, Refunds

Chinese film authorities on Wednesday approved a Friday debut for the 4K remastered re-release of Peter Jackson’s “The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first film in his classic “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. The approval came so close to the release date that cinemas across the country were unable to receive their digital prints in time, forcing droves of refunds for cancelled screenings on opening day.

They rather allow the release Detective Conan than Demon slayer...China film bureau really want that 2020 highest grossing film title very much.

lol. They don't give a shit about the crown. Japanese studio and local distributor refuse to submit the movie again.

I do not know if it will be enough to get a good run, but The Two Towers scores right now a 9.5 in Maoyan.

This is tricky, all 3 films totaling 9 hours released back to back probably cannibalize than complement each other. Except that TTT avoid the crappy distribution plan that FOTR received last week.
