Chinese audience are going to see mulan on Sep.4 for free. They f-ck up the date

Yup, exactly. And so many people here previously were debating with me and claiming piracy will not or have limited impact on box office..

If people still refuse to believe so, I can show them how easy I can find those pirated version after it released digitally. I found Irishman in great quality just two days after its Netflix debut. If that is the case for a mid-tier film (in term of mass appeal) , Mulan would be even more so.

We Asian (except maybe Japanese) have a motto, pay and watch it in cinema or pirate it freely at home. There is no such thing as pay to watch it at home

As a Eastern European living in the UK - same for Central and Eastern Europe. While streaming is popular, simply because of the huge volume of content, there's a reason why VOD is virtually non-existent in those territories, and it very much has to do with mentality as well. Going out to the cinema is a mini-event. Go out with mates or family, maybe grab a bite, do some shopping (especially since most massive multiplexes in those territories are in huge shopping malls), get a bucket of popcorn, watch the movie, go home.

Paying top money to watch a brand new movie at home, on top of all the streaming services, but without the cinema-going is pretty much inconceivable.

two days

that's so late. try two hours.

Though in India case, I think the reason is India is a poor country and movie pricing is way too high for common public to follow. In India only 3-5% population visit theater once an year because moviegoing is luxury.

In most countries, movie tickets are roughly one hour minimum wage. In India they are about one day minimum wage.

Maybe 2nd week hold actually was nice due to the capacity limits (800 is the first film that we’ve seen clearly bumping up against them in any market, iirc?). The holds were better than the Maoyan anyway, so that would solve the disconnect without needing to assume real WOM >> rating.

No matter piracy, Mulan date will affect Tenet (who is doing poor according to some of you). Disney is evil and they know it

Huh? If they are evil, they would set to release it on 4th Sep just like other parts of Asia to compete with Tenet directly.

Honestly I watched Tenet in Singapore, it was a good movie imo, but I can tel you the half the audience left the cinema confused and I think word of mouth will be very mixed... I don’t think it will do that well in China - with or without Mulan. Impact may be just a 100m yuan in terms of final box office with or without Mulan..

Inception only did $3mn, I don't think much now.

Re- releases have been doing so different, Harry Potter and Interestellar did well, but yeah inception did so little. So I expect numbers closer to Harry Potter. But I think it depends of competition.
