fishstick
Wow, Hobbit had 12500 screens! To compare, BD2 had 9300, Skyfall had 7500, TDKR and Avengers had 11800...Now that you mention BD2, I don`t believe for a second that December would prevent BD2 from opening as much as it did. Twihards and Twimoms would not ditch going to see BD2 for Xmas shopping, no sir. And I also don`t believe for a second that only BD2`s A Cinemascore is inflated by superfans but TH`s, like, totally real from, like, real audience no fanboy rush`n`gush,no way. Double standard = no credibility. End of. Edited December 17, 2012 by fishnets
Incarnadine
Gotta love how people look at numbers and reach different conclusions based on their own personal bias.TH dropped almost 160k from estimates (not a lot for an 84+ mil opener) but people are spinning a slightly stronger than expected Sunday as strong WOM.

fishstick
While visiting Fandango, some fans also took the time to fill out a survey detailing their experience with Tolkien’s story and other fantasy movies in the past. Cinema Blend gave an insight into the poll results.· 91 preview of respondents have seen at least one of the “Lord of the Rings” films;· 81 percent have read at least one of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original books;· 90 percent were glad to see “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson back to direct “The Hobbit;”· 73 percent were also fans of the Harry Potter franchise, while only 27 percent considered themselves fans of the “Twilight” franchise;· 72 percent are happy that “The Hobbit” story spans three installments;· 61 percent said Jackson’s high-frame-rate technology made them more curious to see the movie.Found on ADF:http://awardsdailyforums.com/showthread.php?31777-Les-Miserables-55-Oh-wait-that-s-the-Metacritic-score/page23Cinemascore A = fanboy rush. fishstick
Which means Skyfall per screen gross is 78% higher than Hobbit ...Well, bigger screen count always delutes PSA. But anyway, the screen counts shows WB expected bigger opening than what it got. Record numbers of theaters and screens are aimed at record openings and so are day-and-date OS releases. Oh, wait, it smashed December record.

fishstick
Explains a lot why there's report of empty seats. My showing had like only 4 people.Well, the idea behind so many screens definitely wasn`t to have empty eats. because cinemas cut movies that don`t perform from their schedule or send them into smaller auditoriums first. I know that some studios have iron-clad contracts that require their tentpole plays in the biggest auditoriums for 2-3 weeks regardless of attendance. Disney have some shit like that. They aslo force showtimes on cinemas so that their tentpoles always play at the peak of peaks. Edited December 18, 2012 by fishnets

fishstick
So, Hobbit OW is still "fine" ... ? jesus, firedeep, how thick you can be? Don`t you know that studios release movies in over 4000 theaters and over 12500 screens domestically and day-and-date in over 50 countries because they expect OMG huge numbers 2 weeks after the opening? That`s the whole point of opening your movies in so many theaters, screens, countries, etc now - so that they post big numbers in 2 weeks when people finish shopping for Xmas and doing other stuff that they think are more appealing than seeing a movie that is avaliable in pretty much every place that has something resembling a cinema. Now if you wonder why then they didn`t just do that in 2 weeks instead of, you know, ending up with shoddy numbers they have to hype like second coming of TA only abrivated December Edition, well, that you can`t understand because you are thick. if you weren`t, you`d be the genius at WB,no?
