Weekend numbers thread (close between TH and DU 31.5-31 so far)

Some people have a tendency to use the words "flop" and "bomb" entirely too flippantly on here. A flop or bomb is a film that makes less than what it cost to produce and market...significantly less.

Forgive them for their sins. They don't know what they're talking about.

  :rofl:So TH1 is a flop because it didn't make $450M? In a season where grosses are muted? Your lack of box office knowledge laughable.I was predicting $330M, so my prediction is only a bit off. Then again, I got flamed for predicting too low. You can't predict $400M+ when we know the fan base is coming on opening weekend and the grosses in December are muted. Also, the fact the movie was poorly marketed and the more kid-friendly nature turned some fans off, it's doing pretty good. Not at mega-blockbuster levels, but good for the holidays.Long short story, $450M is overemphazing the levels it was going for.

ERRYONEE BEGGGED IT TO MAKE 450m IT'S A HUGR GIANT DISGUSTING FLOP

ROTG has a problem though. Along with all the holdovers from 2012 and new films in January. The problem is the fiscal cliff. Since taxes go way up on January 1st, then moviegoers, especially families will not have enough in their budget to keep going to movies so much.

LOL. what? budget cuts? :D

You know what? It is interesting that suddenly people are celebrating 300M seems safe for the Hobbit. I mean, after they consistently claimed 400M was the absolutely floor just a (few) months ago.Wow, great numbers for Hobbit, lets congrats! :hi5:

Why do you care anyway? At least people know how to be happy unlike you.

even though it is a disappointment compared to expectations, there is nothing wrong with showing relief or celebration at another respectable gross. Especially when some say it couldn't reach that mark after opening weekend

A lot of the time people use their biases in determining whether a movie is a flop, bomb and etc. TASM and Hobbit are prime example of this, they had plenty of hate in advance of their respective releases. Both movies will be in black but somehow people are claiming them as flops.

I said it's underwhelming to me and some others, not everyone. Funnily enough several people here were saying 300-350m for it, and now some of those same people are acting like that's such a disaster.

Of course my post doesn't mirror everyone's. Even the overseas gross is really good for me. The holidays really helped a lot.
