And what I don't get about the Artist is that everyone is slagging on it like it's Oscar bait simply because Harvey picked it up; it in fact is a fiercely independent and risky movie. It took a huge risk, and became the little movie that could, that told such a charming story and it deserves every award it got.

It is the worst film to win anything at the Oscars since Shakespeare in Love. only nominated by the academy and only won because they wanted to look like they actually knew anything about movies. Horrible horrible film.

It's not even the worst BP winner since Shakespeare in Love both of which were deserving. It was a charming lovely movie. Last year's Oscars as a whole were great, Davis lost and t was really funny cus she looked like she was going to get up from her chair to accept the award but lost. Dujardin won and gave a ridiculously charming speech. Would've liked Oldman but Dujardin was really good as well. Both supporting winners were good as well. Now if you want a horrible Oscar winner I suggest you go see the short film The Shore. That was just dreadful honestly just bad. And Techs have had their fare share of some really horrible winners over the years. Edited by riczhang

Yeesh, only on boxoffice.com. NO, The Artist is nowhere near as terrible as ELAIC. I understand why The Artist might not be your cup of tea, but what on Earth makes it such an offensive choice? Let's not forget that the year as a whole blew. What film deserved to win if not that one? The Tree of Life was never gonna happen; its nomination was shocking enough.

There were a fair few unwatchable films last year and this year but Artist isn't one of them.

It's horrible. It's the Pet Rock of Oscar winners...a fad...the in thing for a few days. Nothing more. It was a gimmick.

Do you go out of your way to like every artsy film? The Artist wasn't anything close to charming, it had all the charm of a wet blanket on a cold night. Edited by baumer

Weren't you just calling people out for insulting your taste in film? Come on, baumer, you're better than this.

No one will care about The Artist 5-10 years from now but to be fair to the AMPAS members the other options weren't that good either.

Fair enough, but any film besides Artist and ELIC should have won...ANY FILM.
