The Creator
June 3-5: "Stuff of Legend Steps Into The Light" Period fantasy "The Stuff of Legend: Into the Dark" drew in the masses. The adventure flick dominated in first with a remarkable 65 million haul. While it appeared slightly frontloaded, with Friday raking in 28.5 million, the film averaged good reception among audiences. People aged 18-24 accounted for roughly 53% of the viewers. The other opener did not fair so well. "The Life of a Prophet", the historical drama detailing the life of the prophet Muhammad, wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Falling short of expectations, it finished in fifth place with 12.3 million. It's likely to go mostly unnoticed over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, last week's top performer went back to second. "Sir Thimes Time" held on to its big pot of gold. The family film was down 32% and added another 25.6 million. Musical "Wicked", based off the hit musical, was down a sub-35%, placing 3rd with an overall weekend gross of 23.5 million. It is on a fast pace for the 100 million milestone, and will pass it this week or next. "Mysteries of the Beyond" nabbed fourth, down less than 45% for a solid 18.7 million in its third outing. Meanwhile, "The New Species" took a swashbuckling hit. The sci-fi plummeted over 60% to a second weekend tally of 11.4 million, continuing to fall well short of studio hopes. [*]The Stuff of Legend: Into the Dark: 64,759,872 (NEW) [*]Sir Thime's Time: 25,563,641 (3rd week) -32.24% [*]Wicked: 23,495,878 (2nd week) -33.87% [*]Mysteries of the Beyond: 18,692,418 (3rd week): -44.87% [*]The Life of a Prophet: 12,324,056 (NEW) [*]The New Species: 11,378,958 (2nd week) -61.71% [*]Last Ditch Effort: 7,606,768 (5th week) -36.67% [*]Wonder Woman: 5,844,239 (4th week) -47.59% [*]Avenue Q: 4,485,217 (4th week): -33.37% [*]The Impact of Sir Roger the Alien 2: 803,593 (6th week) -55.65% Top Ten Gross: 174,954,640 (+2.49%) June 10-12: "The Golden Bird Flies To The Top" The second animated offering of the summer pulled into first this week. "The Golden Bird" wasn't quite as appealing as "Sir Thimes" from May, yet it hauled a great 42 million in its three day release. Families accounted for 74% of the viewings. Horror thriller "3:38 A.M." didn't manage to scare up enough fans. The flick debuted poorly outside the top five with 9.2 million, below studio and in-house expectations. "The Stuff of Legend: Into the Dark" passed the 100 million milestone over the week, thanks in part to its 28.7 million gross in second place this weekend. "Wicked" retained third place, down 30% for a solid 16.2 million. "Sir Thimes" continues to power along, adding another exceptional 15 million, showing it can survive the minor hit that "Bird" tossed. And "Mysteries of the Beyond" rounded out the top five with its best hold yet, down under 40% to 11.3 million. The Muhammad biopic "The Life of a Prophet" was down a summarily large 48.05%, for 6.4 million in its second frame. "The New Species" continues to fall off the face of the planert, down over 60% once again. [*]The Golden Bird: 42,207,339 (NEW) [*]The Stuff of Legend: Into the Dark: 28,701,575 (2nd week) -55.68% [*]Wicked: 16,245,050 (3rd week) -30.86% [*]Sir Thimes Time: 15,051,871 (4th week) -41.12% [*]Mysteries of the Beyond: 11,293,958 (4th week) -39.58% [*]3:38 A.M.: 9,217,855 (NEW) [*]The Life of a Prophet: 6,402,347 (2nd week) -48.05% [*]Last Ditch Effort: 5,052,415 (6th week) -33.58% [*]The New Species: 4,526,549 (3rd week) -60.22% [*]Wonder Woman: 3,213,747 (5th week) -45.01% Top Ten Gross: 141,917,706 (-18.88%) June 17-19: "Audiences In For A Huge Bioshock" Despite its R rating, "Bioshock" managed to pull in the highest opening of the year so far (a title it should hold on to until "Avarice" opens next month). The sci-fi based off the popular video game series spiraled to first with an alarming 83 million. Most forecasts set the film on a 50-60 million target range, but "Bioshock" went well above those tracking numbers. It became apparent early Friday morning when midnight numbers reported the film at 5.5 million that it was aiming for a gross much higher than anticipated. The studio should be thrilled, and fans are too. The film hit if off very well with fans and audiences. Fans of the video game series accounted for only 46% of the opening. Surprisingly, most of those polled said they saw the movie more because they were looking for a big it movie, and "Bioshock" offered, with an advertising campaign that rivaled "Mysteries of the Beyond's". Among holdovers, "The Golden Bird" led the pack. The animated fantasy was down 43% to 24 million in its second week of release. "The Stuff of Legend: Into the Dark" took a slight hit from "Bioshock", but still managed a solid 15 million. And "Wicked" added another 10.5 million, pulling just slightly ahead of "Sir Thimes Time" this week, as the latter added 10 million, rounding out the top five. [*]Bioshock: 83,479,805 (NEW) [*]The Golden Bird: 23,902,016 (2nd week) -43.37% [*]The Stuff of Legend: Into the Dark: 14,985,092 (3rd week) -47.79% [*]Wicked: 10,466,686 (4th week) -35.57% [*]Sir Thimes Time: 9,953,804 (5th week) -33.87% [*]Mysteries of the Beyond: 6,072,761 (5th week) -46.23% [*]3:38 A.M.: 4,008,845 (2nd week) -56.51% [*]The Life of a Prophet: 3,846,530 (3rd week) -39.92% [*]Last Ditch Effort: 2,794,996 (7th week) -44.68% [*]The New Species: 1,945,510 (4th week) -57.02% Top Ten Gross: 161,456,045 (+13.77%) June 24-26: "Bioshock Leads, 451 Doesn't Heat Up" It appeared to be a disappointing week for the openers. While projections placed "451" for a 30 million track, the film fell way short of that marker, and couldn't even hit the 20 million target range. The movie, based off the popular Ray Bradbury novel "Fahrenheit 451", may have received some of the year's best reviews from critics, but it didn't hit it off so huge with audiences. "451" debuted in second place with an unremarkable 18.7 million. That said, word-of-mouth indicates staying power, as the film averaged an A rating on Cinemascore, and producers claim the film was never meant for big numbers right off the bat. With "451" underperforming, "Bioshock" was able to maintin its lead. In fact, it held on surprisingly better than expected. The video game adaptation continues to be the "it" movie of the summer so far, down under 47% to 44 million in its second week. The film is on the fast track for the 200 million milestone, and who knows how far it can go with little in the way of competition until "Avarice" in a month. "Frogs, Frogs, and More Frogs 3D" posted an expectedly poor opening, in eighth place with 3.5 million. The 3D didn't add much to audiences' perception of the movie. [*]Bioshock: 44,387,829 (2nd week) -46.83% [*]451: 18,659,803 (NEW) [*]The Golden Bird: 14,876,615 (3rd week) -37.76% [*]The Stuff of Legend: Into the Dark: 9,146,900 (4th week) -38.96% [*]Wicked: 7,450,187 (5th week) -28.82% [*]Sir Thimes Time: 7,413,953 (6th week) -25.52% [*]Mysteries of the Beyond: 3,701,348 (6th week) -39.05% [*]Frogs, Frogs, and More Frogs 3D: 3,541,228 (NEW) [*]The Life of a Prophet: 2,519,477 (4th week) -34.50% [*]3:38 A.M.: 1,915,025 (3rd week) -52.23% Top Ten Gross: 113,612,365 (-29.63%)
The Dark Alfred
Great run for Wicked and Golden Bird, both should hit 150m. Way to high for Bioshock IMO, is that game that popular?
Ezen Baklattan
The Stuff Of Legend, based on my calculations, should be around ~$155m by the end of the month and finish with around $180m-$190m. Given the fantasy and WWII setting, it should do very well overseas. The Stuff Of Legend 2 is coming Y8!
CJohn
Dafuq Bioshock?! When did the game became that much popular? Or R movies started to open that high ? Edited February 20, 2013 by CJohn

The Dark Alfred
It's beyond me though. In real life all video games adaptations flop. Now I now that we get some decent projects in CAYOM, so I'm all for some decent grosses, but every year a video game film breaks out insanely. The Creator
I wanted something to break out. This year has an absysmal slate of blockbusters (not that they all suck, but that they simply don't stand a chance for the most part).

Blankments
Sir Thymes Time has the best legs of any movie I've ever done; it even managed to survive Golden Bird without a major drop! Yeah, Sir Thymes Time 2 is definitely coming; when, I don't know.
Hiccup
451 will lose a chance to have good legs to Avarice.

OS should be fairly kinder so it'll break even by a small but fair bit. However depending on its competition it could get mauled badly since the reception was pretty mixed critically. Blankments
I actually have tons of ideas for Sir Thymes Time sequels, which is nice because I wanted an original animated franchise, and I didn't want to make Shiverin' Gulch sequels (although a little down the round I might bump a Christmas special up to feature length; depends on how I feel in November.)
