One of the best action/sci-fi movies of all time imo. A truly one of a kind blend of social satire and ultra-violence. Paul Verhoeven's best movie and that's saying a lot.

Where the hell is Paul Verhoeven right now? The directed made some of the most well know sci-fis of all time, like RoboCop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers. Is he still working?

He did the well-received World War II drama BLACK BOOK a few years ago, which was the Netherlands' nominee for the Best Foreign Film Oscar (I think). IMDB shows he did another Dutch film in 2011. He hasn't done any work in Hollywood since HOLLOW MAN.

A very entertaining 80's actioner with great bits of satire, but i dont think its a masterpiece.

Really like that one, it walks the lines between satire and drama and thriller and action without tripping. Some of the scenes were shot in a very pedestrian way, and the "messages" are rather MESSAGES, but as a whole this remains a fun and rewarding film.

Film like death wish came out at a time of exploding crime so people liked the message of the film.
