You got the answer on this, but as they go to real time in the solar system in a number of sci fi books I have read (which postulate that you can only realistically travel in relativistic time outside a solar system) they wake up, and at that point it becomes a classic 'cruise' until they reach the planet.  In any event they said in one article that they chose to not try to have a movie where you have to explain for half the movie how the future works.  They said they took the cue from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy -- they wanted the issues they explore to be in a space venue but to be understandable in today's terms.

One thing I really liked was how excited the two hosts that saw the movie were about it. Either they are great actors or they actually really enjoyed it.

Yeah, they showed us something approximating a trailer... FINALLY!... but still, this could just be an elaborate hoax - just look at the whole concept!! And look at the "marketing"...

the marketing, domestically, has been bad. But the movie clearly exists.  A whole lot more than the trailer has come out at this point:

 

 

and speaking of that clip, Passengers advanced to the next stage for VFX Oscar consideration.
