  1. The RE aren't brilliant movies, but they are fun to watch. There were several RE movies on TV last night and for the first time in a few years I watched the first one, it holds up quite well and is actually better than I remember. It doesn't hurt that Milla is at her absolute hottest there (just edging out her look in The 5th Element).
  2. I watched season one when it first aired and just watched the season two premiere, it's a good show. It's been a while, but did season one leave the expletives in? Season two definitely left them in but I'd swear in the first season they were bleeped. In any event, that was a good start to season 2.
  3. It certainly took long enough, but it finally got there. I just looked at the LLL theater counts since it opened, the very definition of a slow roll out. Dec. 9 - 5 theaters Dec 16 - 200 theaters Dec. 25 - 734 theaters Dec. 30- 750 theaters Jan. 6 - 1,515 theaters Jan. 13- 1,848 theaters Jan. 20- 1,865 theaters Jan. 27- 3,136 theaters
  4. Anyone have theater counts for this weekend? I'm curious how much LLL will expand and see just how much over $100m it can get this weekend.
  5. Wow, I was expecting at least a 30% drop for LLL after that huge Tuesday, that hold is downright amazing.
  6. Stone has a lot to choose from, although much of it is subtle where she uses her expressive face. Most likely it will be the dinner argument or Audition, although I think the other "audition" with Emma in the blue coat would be an excellent choice too, her delivery and the way her expression changes during the delivery followed by the nervous and and confused look after she is interrupted is brilliant. I'd be OK with the whole "I Ran" scene too, she's such a playful vixen there, and that parting look is priceless.
  7. I know not everyone likes it, that's why I qualified it with "virtually". There is no such thing as a universally liked movie, no matter how popular a movie is there will always be some whose tastes run different or who just like being contrarians. Reviews and audience scores point to LLL being extremely well liked by both critics and audiences, unless all you look at is the IMDB board which just trashes it, but that site is the most troll infested site in existence. Going by IMDB boards you'd think every movie ever made was a steaming pile of shit that everyone hates.
  8. Even though that may be true, in the case of LLL virtually everyone loves it. There are so many comments that start "I thought I'd hate it since I don't like musicals, but..." that show it is popular with every movie going demographic. I'm not a big fan of musicals myself, I think I've only seen 4 others in theater. Les Mis - Meh, not a fan of singing every single line and Crowe was awful. Moulin Rouge- Didn't care for it at all Chicago- Liked it, but didn't love it Mamma Mia- Loved it. Even though it had one of the weakest plots I've ever seen (really just a threadbare excuse to go from one Abba song to the next) but the performances were enthusiastic and the singing was excellent (not counting Brosnan), especially Seyfried who nailed everything.
  9. Up until a year ago I lived in the first and Commercial are, now I'm in Richmond. I'd say I go to the Scotiabank most, International Village a fair amount too since they get a lot of family and smaller movies. I also go to Silvercity Metrotown occasionally and Marine Gateway since it's close by, although it's not a very busy theater and I like a big crowd for certain movies, which is why I like Scotiabank so much.
  10. It's just possible, but it can only lose one of it's categories (two noms for best song means only 13 wins are possible) and actor is going to Affleck so LLL has to sweep everything else. I really don't see anything breaking the record without having supporting actor/actress noms too, the smaller awards tend to get spread out a bit more.
  11. Only two things really surprise me with these noms: 1- No Amy. After Emma Amy is who I'd have wanted to win. 2 - Suicide Squad has an Oscar nomination and Deadpool doesn't
  12. I'm not sure this is the right forum, but I couldn't think of a better match. In past years this was known as The Great Digital Film Fest, but they changed it for this year and the lineup isn't quite as good as previous years, but there are still several I'll be seeing. The 2017 lineup, Feb. 3-9: Air Force One Blade Runner: The Final Cut Blood Simple Fargo Fight Club Groundhog Day Heat Jurassic Park Legend Pulp Fiction Shallow Grave Starship Troopers The Fifth Element The Fugitive The Princess Bride Running Man Trainspotting I'll absolutely be seeing Pulp Fiction, The Fifth Element and The Princess Bride. There are 3 or 4 other I'll maybe/probably see depending on the days and showtimes.
  13. Kind of random, but Nina Dobrev just had a La La Land themed birthday party. Even other actors love this movie. http://www.mtv.com/news/2974699/nina-dobrev-la-la-land-birthday/
  14. I posted earlier my lowest of 2016 was The Neon Demon, but I've been trying to think of the lowest grossing movie I've ever seen in theaters. The lowest movie with a confirmed boxoffice number would be Coriolanus at just over $700k, but I'm sure the lowest is American Mary, which Cineplex showed just 1 show on a Thursday as a feature of it's Sinister Cinema promotion and The Rio played it for a week. It was packed when I saw it with lots of cast and crew in attendance, but its total take had to be under $10k, maybe under $5k since I'm not sure how many theaters showed it that night.
  15. I still think this looks bad, although I admit my perception is likely tainted by the fact this got greenlit and Croods 2 got axed It was one of their bigger surprise hits and the 2 leads are both peaking in their careers after LLL and Deadpool. Grrr.
  16. I hope it is huge in France, it just seems like it would be embraced there.
  17. This is a really good read for anyone who likes the movie, I definitely learned a few new things about it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/0/la-la-land-behind-scenes-songs-dances-locations/ It's funny that in one part it says " Chazelle wanted the film to have the look and feel of an MGM movie " when I had just come across this cute pic of Emma which uses a pic from an old photoshoot that just surfaced this week...
  18. It's awesome that LLL has blown past $80m already and still hasn't lost any momentum.. Kind of a shame it's only adding a few more theaters this week, but while looking over showtimes for this weekend I see several theaters have increased showtimes for LLL. Several have added two extra evening shows and the theater I most frequent has gone from 4 shows to 8. Oddly, the theater that doubled its shows is the theater that got LLL on Christmas and is only now adding shows when it has been selling out there for weeks (evening shows on Fri-Sun and Tuesday have been nearly impossible to get tickets for unless you bought them more than a day in advance, sometimes even earlier).
  19. Emma. Hey, Emma already has experience voicing a video game character (Sleeping Dogs)
