  1. Yup. I can almost forgive them for giving the BAFTA Rising Star award to Tom Hardy over Emma in 2011. Then again, they don't have the best track record with the Rising Star award, Kristen Stewart won over Carey Mulligan and Jesse Eisenberg, Juno Temple over Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Olsen and Andrea Riseborough, and this years winner Tom Holland over Ruth Negga and Anya Taylor-Joy.
  2. Chazelle adds the BAFTA to his pile of awards hardware.
  3. Denzel wasn't nominated so it's no surprise Affleck won the Best Actor BAFTA.
  4. R Very spread out. Manchester got Best Original Screenplay, but LLL adds Best Cinematography.
  5. It could still go as high as 3rd or as low as 6th if the actuals differ a bit.
  6. A bit of an upset for the BAFTA with Dev Patel winning Best Supporting Actor.
  7. In the first of the major awards at the BAFTA Viola has won Best Supporting Actress.
  8. Awesome for JW2, it managed to increase on Saturday, even counting previews.
  9. Funny, I was flipping through the channels tonight to see if JW was on. Weirdly, it is, but it's on one of the French channels and it's not subtitled, it's dubbed. I watched a few minutes out of curiosity and whoever is doing the voice for JW does sound a lot like Keanu, but Parker isn't remotely close.
  10. Damn it, LLL lost about 1100 theaters this weekend. It was to be expected with such a busy weekend, I'm mostly ticked off that they waited so long to get it in 3000+ theaters when the market has been pretty dead for weeks and it could have thrived even more during the doldrums.
  11. Arrival is sooooo close to $ 100m. After $120k on Friday it's at $99.077m and should finish the weekend close to $99.4m. It will be a damn shame if it falls short, which is pretty likely.
  12. I couldn't resist seeing it again, but at a different theater. It holds up really well and I was able to catch more details that I missed the first time since the action just overloads your brain cells the first time. I didn't even recognize Peter Stormare the first time, he played the Devil in Constantine with Keanu.
  13. The list of who will be performing each of the nominated songs is out. Lin-Manuel Miranda will perform "How Far I'll Go" Justin Timberlake will perform "Can't Stop the Feeling" Sting will perform "The Empty Chair" John Legend will perform both "City of Stars" and "Audition". http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/02/oscars-original-song-performances I'm fine with Legend performing City of Stars, but I think they should have gone for a female performer for Audition (I loved the speculation about Adele doing it)
  14. Saw it today and it didn't disappoint in the least. Was very surprised how busy it was for a 1:50 showing, about 80% full in a 350+ seat auditorium. One of my favorite moments, after they referenced it in the last movie and again at the beginning of the 2nd movie we finally got to see John Wick...
  15. I have my ticket for this at 7 pm tonight. Honestly, my first choice would have been for JW2, but the nearest theater doesn't have previews for it so it's LEGO tonight and Wick tomorrow (and Shades NEVER)
  16. While it has been kind of dead I'm still rooting for Split, LLL and ADP to make every dollar they can squeeze out of their runs before they lose all their theaters to newer movies.
  17. I think we are in for two breakouts and one somewhat disappointing, but still ok, opening. I'm still laughing about when I saw weekend projections for JW at 19m - 22m (Variety maybe?) only a few days ago.
  18. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/ Split - 992k Hidden Figures - 958k La La Land - 677k A Dog's Purpose - 578k Rings - 558k
  19. Nah, Scarlett would kick his ass if he tried anything. Besides, he's probably not any good, Kristen switched to women shortly after their "fling".
  20. It's funny how much the lead actor/actress odds have changed since the SAG awards. Before the SAG's best actor was a virtual lock for Affleck and best actress was a two way race (but with momentum going in opposite directions), with a third still having a legitimate chance, now best actor is a toss up and Emma is far and away the front runner. I guess the only awards left of any significance until the big night is the BAFTA's, but in the main acting categories it will be hard to judge anything since significant Oscar players Denzel and Huppert aren't even nominated.
  21. I never even heard of this until the trailer played before A Dog's Purpose last night. I actually thought the trailer was fairly good. Probably not something I'll see in theaters, but maybe when it hits the movie channels later.
