Joy | David O. Russell | Christmas 2015 | New Trailer on Page 20!

That's a nice teaser and JLaw looks good for another nomination. -
Lionsgate has valuable IP like THG, Twilight and to a lesser extent Divergent and Expendables. Hell, Saw franchise is more valuable than anything Relativity has. They also have a very strong TV division and international sales arm. They may tank in a few years because their margin of error is tiny compared to majors but there is no comparison between LGF and Relativity Media as of now. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/?view2=allmovies&view=company&studio=lionsgatesummit.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/?view2=allmovies&view=company&studio=relativity.htm

Agree with you on the distributor (Relativity has major issues right now) but the movie looks good to me. Zach Galifianakis looks in his elements and the movie has a really good plot. I have been following the development of this movie since 2013 back when it was called Loomis Fargo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_Loomis_Fargo_Robbery_in_North_Carolina). It can make $60-70 million if given a proper release.

Found this link on HSX. http://adage.com/article/media/popcorn-flic/299309/ Apparently, Warners spend as much TV ad money on Entourage as they did on Mad Max and San Andreas. I am not sure if I buy all the numbers (Dog drama Max cost as much money as Avengers. Come on) , but it is an interesting insight into TV ad buys.

I am pretty sure they were going for a PG-13 rating. Their viral marketing was aimed at teens. The movie also seems to be rated very late in the game and I wonder if it is because of some plot point that they simply couldn't modify to get a PG-13 rating.

My opinion is that the horror genre needs a Rosemary's Baby or a The Exorcist more than it needs a slasher movie. The problem isn't that they are making too many supernatural movies, it is that they are making too many shitty movies and found footage was the worst thing to happen to the genre. It gave them an excuse to make bad movies with bad acting, bad direction and horrible production value because, hey, this is just some found footage. Maybe a guy like Scorsese or Nolan will make a horror movie and recharge the genre because Blumhouse ain't doing it.

Weekend Thread JW 54.2M, hits 500 | IO 52M | pg 99

$100 million is not guaranteed if it opens at $31 million but the combination of summer weekdays and lack of R-rated comedies for the next three weeks should help it get over that mark. -
The Jurassic World vs JP3 showdown on the Mojo frontpage is seriously pissing me off.

The movie looks fine to me but the problem is that Relativity Media is in a very poor financial shape. Based on the reports coming out I don't think they will have $10-20 million needed to seriously back this movie. The best case scenario may be that they sell the theatrical rights of the movie to another studio that can give this movie a respectable release.

Seth MacFarlane also makes a lot of money from Family Guy merchandising. It was mentioned that the merchandising has generated over a billion in revenues and MacFarlane gets a big chunk of it.

Coppola's winery/food business generates half a billion in revenues annually. The source is a few years old - http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2007/12/coppola200712

JW will also get the Sunday record. No reason for it to get the Friday (day only) and Saturday records and miss the Sunday record when Sundays in June are already more inflated than in May. -

Spy should do around $250 million WW on a $65 million budget. That's another big win for Melissa McCarthy. -

Avengers' $207 million was equally unexpected. The initial projections were $65 million Friday but Rth kept updating the numbers and they kept increasing. JW's weekend performance is a deja-vu for me because of this reason. -
