  1. Showed this trailer to my Social Studies class. The next day we did a Kahoot, and the first question was "What movie are you ALL going to watch this summer?" About 95% of them answered "Barbie."
  2. LOL I know people who have seen this and… wow people are going to HATE the ending. Seriously, this is the closest to Devil Inside I’ve heard in a long time.
  3. LOL Transformers has sold ONE ticket at my locals for Thursday previews. One. ONE!! Bomb for the ages folks. Tracking across the country is poor as well. Not going to be surprised if this does Shazam numbers domestically TBH, unless by some miracle it’s amazing.
  4. This is one of the rare movies where the emotional beats hit even HARDER with each rewatch. I honestly felt more the third time watching it than I did during my first viewing. Testament to good storytelling, and not just using cheap emotion to garner sympathy. The emotion is deep, and complex. Very well-written, almost uncanny for a “silly book movie.” Genuinely impressive. Gunn is the best thing that’s happened to DC since Nolan.
  5. Fast X is going to be the lowest grossing of the franchise since Fast 4 (or whatever it’s called). Presales are abysmal in Canada, and don’t really seem to be showing signs of picking up. Mermaid is beating Aladdin’s sales ticket-for-ticket, and adjusted for inflation this is doing 100M for the 3-day alone if not more. 400M DOM doesn’t seem impossible if WOM is there.
  6. Been chatting with the managers at my old theatre. Yup, this is going to be BIG, and theaters are expecting it to be. Between this, Mermaid, and Flash opening back to back to back, this is basically May 2007 all over again. But this time, it seems like the movies themselves will deliver quality wise.
  7. Agreed. If that happens, it will be a No Way Home type event. This franchise is going to age really well IMO.
  8. Been seeing online edits of GOTG trilogy remade as Star Wars posters in the artwork of the Original Trilogy. And it’s making me truly believe that this series is going to stand the test of time as Marvel’s best. Sure, there will be other Spider-Men. There will be more Avengers movies. But in 30 years from now, this will be the series (along with maybe the first Black Panther movie, and Endgame) that people are going to remember, and will be regarded as classics of the genre. The quality and reception of GOTG3 solidifies that for me. Strong trilogy all-around, not a single entry is “disliked” by the general public.
  9. The superhero genre is going to die once the quality starts to consistently drop. 2022 wasn’t the best year, but GOTG3 is somewhat of a rebound for the genre. If Spiderverse and Flash continue this reversal, I’d say the genre will be much healthier by the end of the year than it was, say, 3 months ago. Even if Marvels just ends up being okay.
  10. Following Guardians 2 from here gets it to 334M. Guardians 1 gets it to 403M. Black Panther gets it to 370M. Thinking 350 is pretty likely at this point. Competition is heavy the next few weeks so I’m not ready to predict much higher yet, but Word of Mouth is certainly stellar.
  11. Sub-50% drop for a MCU movie in 2023 is nuts. That would be like a Twilight or Potter movie having an excellent 2nd weekend hold 10-15 years ago I really hope people don’t underestimate the significance of this number. Stellar WOM, truly a lifeline for the MCU.
  12. Not saying it's okay (it's not) but... wasn't this pretty much every single boy on the playground? Idk, I wasn't a kid all that long ago, and me and my sister liked watching Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus and I can't remember a single boy who didn't make fun of that.
  13. Just finished Guardians for a third time. Movie grows on me each viewing. Go see it, it’s one of Marvel’s best! Deserves the great holds it’s getting. Really hope it makes it to 350 DOM and 900WW, even though I know that’s a tall order.
  14. Just based on the demographics I have seen at movie theaters, it is not the hardcore gaming community that is powering Mario. Kids who are familiar with the characters? Sure. Parents who played the games as kids and are taking their kids for a nostalgia trip? Sure. But actual "gamers" is a SMALL demographic that's going to see this movie.
  15. No. It’s big in its own niche, but as someone who doesn’t play video games personally but am otherwise very up-to-date with pop culture and media (I also teach at a high school lol) and this is the first I’m hearing of it.
  16. Maybe I'm just on the right side of the internet for once (the non-toxic side) but I haven't really heard any toxic discourse about GOTG3 at all! Just a lot of "I really enjoyed it!" and "Yea this one was pretty good, even though I'm not a big Marvel person." For me, it's just seemed like such a wholesome release, and God knows we needed one of those...
  17. I really admire what Pixar is trying to do this decade, with big original stories. I don’t think their 2020 stuff has been as successful from a quality standpoint as their 2000s godlike run, but it’s a step in the right direction.
  18. The last film was already 5 years ago. I could be totally wrong, but I feel like the pandemic has accelerated how quickly movies have "aged" and how people have "forgotten" pre-pandemic content. Stuff like Game of Thrones, Endgame, The Meg, the Sequel Trilogy all feel like they're from another time. I don't think there's much remembrance of The Meg other than "oh that stupid one where Jason Statham fights a giant shark."
  19. Martin Scorsese probably feels really silly right now. THIS is cinema folks!
  20. Yup, this is definitely getting the Happytime Murders treatment. And yes, it could also go the way of Good Boys, but I don't have a ton of faith in this tbh.
  21. I really want Guardians to cross 300M. Saw it again Friday, I came around to it in a big way, really great movie. It would just feel wrong for it to end up in the high 200s (or even lower).
