  1. Going back to that twist in Passengers that I've read so much about, I think Pratt, like a lot of comedic actors, could also kill in the part of someone who believes he's a charming affable well-meaning dude but is gradually revealed to be a self-centered asshole. (Think Jason Bateman in The Gift). Though he needs to have a bigger comedic filmography before he can effectively attempt that kinda subversion, I think. And, it goes without saying, a really sharp script and director.
  2. Gray has always gotten top-notch work out of his actors so I'm optimistic. The reviews I've seen say he does well in this too.
  3. Doctor Strange. It's not all that great but the visuals and Swinton alone put it far above the others (except Deadpool which I haven't seen, but given that I already found the trailer insufferable I don't think I missed anything).
  4. When I think of bright colors and lighting I definitely think of Blade Runner.
  5. I'm also so tired of Hollywood giving us all those Jacques Demy, Minnelli, and Astaire & Rogers homages every damn year. Is it ever gonna end or what?
  6. Right. Plus TASM, aside from being TASM, arrived a few months after THG so Lawrence had already attracted all the It Girl hype Stone might have gotten. I think she's gonna do great in the long run, anyway. She seemingly got blockbusters out of her system quickly and is only getting better as an actress now.
  7. It's a bit weird that Stone is only now really getting her big Movie Star moment because she's been close to the spotlight since at least Zombieland 7 years ago but never quite ended up right in the center of it. In the time when JLaw (and, if you disregard box office, Brie Larson and Alicia Vikander) could go from complete unknown to Oscar winner in two years, Stone's steady rise feels like it took her ages.
  8. Thankfully I never have. Can't say this makes me want to. Good for him that he's getting these opportunities, anyway.
  9. Three major sci-fi movies in a row, two of them huge nerd properties, the man really is gonna have as many insufferable fanboys as Nolan does now. Ah, the passage of time. And some of us are gonna be there stubbornly arguing that Enemy and Sicario are still his best work, dammit.
  10. You were that supporting player whose job was to hand the star his moment to shine. No one ever remembers those
  11. "4815162342, Blankments, WrathOfHan and 4 others like this"
  12. The most goddamn-it-Ethan-the-adults-are-talking Ethan post. And let's bring Documentary back, there's been a bunch of big ones this year.
  13. I'd say the best director, actor and supporting actor picks have been pretty flawless so far. Hopefully that continues
  14. The Shutter Island vibes are getting stronger and stronger. No complaints from me though. Good to see something this potentially bizarre and fucked up on a solid budget.
  15. I see a lotta folks chose to turn their back on family
  16. Dat production design. Looks like they're sticking with the release date, too, despite Kingsman.
