Thinking this will be Davis vs Stone. Would be totally on Stone's train if Davis had won for The Help.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Jake Gittes replied to baumer's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
When it's all said and done this will probably be the performance Leo is best remembered for. -
Among the good ideas buried by everything else the one that stuck out to me was that The Joker and Harley's relationship seemed to be genuine, if however twisted, love, rather than a pathetic one-sided obsession. That could have made for a compelling storyline, if, y'know, someone actually bothered to try and do something with it.

Blood and Black Lace (1964)
Jake Gittes replied to K1stpierre's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
A damn good early giallo. -
Maybe the closest any movie's ever gotten to being a literal garbage fire. That's what it looks like half the time, anyway. Got a kick out of Viola Davis and Jai's Accent, but otherwise it's constantly tripping all over itself with regards to basically everything, and gives the impression that it was written not in six weeks but in six hours, by a posturing 13-year-old kid who has no idea how movies work.

Best Screenplays 2016 (Original and Adapted)
Jake Gittes replied to cannastop's topic in And The Winner Is...
Been thinking since Sundance that Manchester-By-The-Sea is likely to win Original. La La Land and Birth of a Nation will probably be its main competition. And I'd really love it if The Lobster got in, if it's gonna get nominated anywhere it'll be here. Adapted looks like it's gonna be between Fences, Silence and Billy Lynn. -
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Jake Gittes replied to Dementeleus's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Inessential but fun space adventure flick with the cast as its main asset. Though if/when they do another movie with this crew I hope they try to reach for something more than "pretty good". -

Jake Gittes replied to chasmmi's topic in Chasmmi's Infamous Box Office Game
Dunno if this has been pointed out but it's gonna be the first year when a pre-summer release will technically have made enough money during the summer to qualify for the top 15. The Jungle Book has made $99m starting from May 6. -
