  1. How do you effectively counter a horrible day for the MCU (AM3's reviews)? Simple. Declare Harrison Ford as president!
  2. Well the MCU movie before this one was BPWK which had pretty darn good reception. So maybe 2 out of the last 3 MCU films (if we're splitting hairs). I am going to declare right now that GOTG3 gets terrific reception by both critics and audience. Then Marvels not so much. Next year, however, could be a cluster@#$%
  3. Bad for AMQM and bad for MCU. If this is the intro to the big baddie in the next Avengers movie, what does it say for that? Bad start to phase 5. I doubt Marvels will be a whole lot better if at all. Then it's a long wait for the next two MCU movies that nobody cares about.
  4. Same ol same ol. Remakes are unoriginal. Reboots are unoriginal. Sequels are unoriginal. Everyone wants something original. Then, when there is something new and original, people complain that it sucks or is too much like other things, thus, unoriginal. Animations may or may not do well, but live action original stuff fails right out of the gate. And hence why studios stick with remakes, reboots, and sequels. If people are going to complain, at least they complain while paying money. And people still bitch and moan. Rinse and repeat. Thank GOD for streaming nowadays!
  5. Nobody's claiming it is going to be so you're just yelling and arguing with yourself. Have fun with that!
  6. People seem to forget something really big. Studios, especially huge ones like Disney, probably get 1000 story proposals a month (just spitballing the number but you get the point). The execs aren't in the business of creating stories. They are the ones that greenlight and foot the bill. They simply reject 99.999999% of any original content that comes to their doorstep just due to risk alone. If a movie is ambitious, it would cost a lot to make it and, based on the dismal return on original content, they just won't pass it through. Execs are about one thing and one thing only-mulah! If there are 990 original ideas and 10 familiar titles, what would you, as an executive, go with? Star Wars almost never got made had it not been for Spielberg convincing Fox to do it. I think, if I remember reading, that it was passed over by several studios out of hand. And Avatar? If there was no Titanic making the most money of any movie at that time, there would be no Avatar. So yeah, we keep getting remakes, redo's, reboots, and sequels. It's the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Just feel lucky to live in a time with streaming so that there is actual original content out there to watch.
  7. And also in front of Mario 2 weeks later. There will probably be magazine covers and other stuff before then. I'm sure they just wanted to get GOTG3 out with attention to be in front of AMWQM. But Elementals didn't have anything either.
  8. Mmmmmkay....not sure what angle this "fighting Nazis is woke" takes. That's.......confusing. Or sarcastic. Or both.
  9. Wow they're not leaving much for the actual game are they? I guess the only trailer left to show during that actual Superbowl is The Flash. Okay scratch that. Nothing left for the game itself.(except MAYBE a new Indy trailer but prolly naught.)
  10. Well to be honest, I had wondered about Little Mermaid trailer being dropped during the Superbowl. For the reasons you mentioned (doesn't really fit the event like an MCU movie). But also, Aladdin dropped a teaser in February and it got BLASTED because it was clearly not finished and Will Smith looked horrible. The full trailer came out in March and looked great. So I was thinking that it was too early for a trailer. Second teaser though? Maybe this time they got it right? Anyway, I wasn't holding my breath (pun intended).
  11. Either Halle's doing the classic Hollywood bait and switch, they canceled at the last minute, or there was never supposed to be one in the first place. Maybe it was always just pure speculation from the start. Whatever the case may be, I've searched endlessly for the leaked trailer everywhere and could not find it. Disney's done a helluva job keeping it out of my hands at least. Maybe they just don't want the endless racist backlash to be wide spread.
  12. I head cannoned a movie/storyline that fits nicely between TLJ and TROS which lessens the blow of each and ties more in with TFA. It involves saving a bunch of First Order children while spending time with voices in Kylo's head and him trying to find out the source of the voices he is hearing. It also involves Finn and Poe being sent on a mission by a radical resistance leader to unlock the code for the First Order plans to recruit. However, the radical leader secretly wants to find out these plans so he can destroy those worlds before the First Order gets there, using the War Hammer (the plotline abandoned from TFA). They learn that Leia had sanctioned it years ago secretly but then aborted from it due to moral reasons. So the story gets into the idea of whether the resistance should resort to the same tactics as the First Order. The answer is NO and Finn and Poe end up disabling the War Hammer. With help from Rey, they rescue a LOT of children (including Force sensitive children the FO want) and bringing them to the safe haven of Batuu. All the while, Finn finds a way to communicate to stormtroopers about their past in hopes of turning them against the FO. He does not think it works until (add one scene) TROS where a bunch of white stormtroopers help Finn and Janna bombard the red troopers. In my opinion, three things would have helped TROS be a little better. One-have a stormtrooper revolt like above. Two-something like the fan edit of the ending where Force ghosts show up to help Rey. Three-an epilogue (speech by Poe with unveiling of statue of Leia on Coruscant, Force sensitive children including Broom boy ready to start training, and Chewie returning to his family on Kashyyyk.) The movie really isn't as bad as many have been led to think. It just needed a little more.
  13. That's a LOT of trailers! I recall being disappointed most years. I suspected Little Mermaid because of the leaks out there (which I CANNOT find for the life of me). GOTG3 is probably expected and a very short Antman would make sense, but it would be a regular short TV spot. Toy Story 4 had a Superbowl trailer/sneak peak in 2019. Is this all because the SB is on Fox and Disney owns Fox?
  14. I agree. This is likely the last direct live-action remake released in theaters .Mufasa will be a prequel/new story and everything else will likely just go to D+ where they can do anything.
  15. I can't see a scenario where they would have past the torch to Shuri if Chadwick hadn't passed. It would have been an internal struggle for T'Challa and may have still been the father/son story we heard about. I also think there would be some moral dilemma that T'Challa would have to struggle with (whether to pre-emptively attack Talocan). As for a lack of explanation being "lazy"-I don't think we can say that. I think it was purposely left ambiguous, but not lazy To this day, there are 3 nit-picky things that puzzle me about the movie. NONE of them are enough to make me dislike it though. 1. Shuri became a good fighter and warrior pretty damn quick for a skinny girl. T'Challa was already physically strong. 2. Shuri being impaled and living without any problems seems a bit abrupt, even if the herb DOES heal. Have the spear go through her arm or leg or something more believable. 3. Namor wanting Riri SO bad seems off a bit considering that anyone could come upon Riri's plans for a vibranium detector. But, again, nit pick here and there. We can do that with EVERY movie EVER made.
  16. Right now, with the way things are going, Titanic and Jurassic World are the current targets for AWOW. Could be upped to TGM as the target soon. We'll have to wait and see. I have $650-$680 m domestic in sight but that could change. Likely not lower.
  17. This movie has held up VERY well through the holiday storm (or should I say "flood" that is WOW). Still making over $3 million on weekends and during the week. It should have small-ish drops until it comes out on D+ and should land between $455m and $460m domestic.
  18. We knew Ava2 would be a monster and have decent holds after that Christmas week. What really pleasantly surprises me is how well BPWF has held up. Over $3 million three weekends AND weekdays in a row! Probably will end up around $455 million after all and maybe higher.
  19. $7.25m is a very good day for yesterday. If TUESDAY was $7.25 we could scratch our head but for today it is right on track.
