  1. ^ Dunkirk was also, shockingly, called Dunkirk in China too. So I doubt that had much to do with it.
  2. Mildly impressed Hostlies managed double digits for the weekend. What was its budget? Still also slightly stunned that Showman will turn a profit after all's said and done.
  3. I like how the Russians said Iannucci should mock his own country's government before mocking theirs, apparently oblivious to massive chunks of his previous work which does exactly that. Anyway, for any Americans on the fence about this: see it. It's disturbingly funny.
  4. For better. People say it's convoluted, but that's part of the fun. Spy stories should make you wonder what the hell's going on, who's double-crossing who, etc. The franchise has held up well, but I think it's a slight shame it's surrendered to action so completely.
  5. I'm... not sure those two films are really comparable beyond roughly similar period settings.
  6. I suppose given the other nominations they weren't too obligated to compensate on the 'non white male' front. Great for Logan though, I thought its release date alone would kill its chances.
  7. I wonder if Nolan would rather be nominated for nothing and not have to show up than go through the motions at this point.
  8. You'd have to drag me to see Darkest Hour but as a pseudo lifetime achievement award I guess I'd be ok with Oldman winning.
  9. Still hate the 5+ BP nom system. It's a crock of shit.
  10. Well done Jordan Peele, hugely deserved. Was Gerwig a given or a surprise?
  11. Well done Logan! Disaster Artist lucky to be there IMO. The script was its weakest aspect.
  12. Even if it was (I've no idea) I'm not sure it would have deserved it. Also, its editing nom is going to get some amused flak, and I say that as someone who liked the film.
  13. Dunkirk's gonna get a million nominations and win nothing, isn't it?
  14. It has a weird methodology you basically have to be a statistics major to grasp. Eg. Wonder Woman is listed as its best reviewed SH movie even though it doesn't really feel like that in the real world.
  15. Yup, eating crow over this one. Sounds like its quality was as I expected, but its BO is clearly way above my bombs away guesses.
  16. Genuinely thought this was a follow-up to I'm Still Here when I saw that title.
  17. Yeah, too little too late. Look, it's Marvel: the movie will be fine and it'll make money. But unless there's some Winter Solider-esque reinvention then it's hard to get excited. I suppose the fact that BW doesn't really have a superpower gimmick is, in of itself, a bit of a novelty?
  18. If it was well-made I'd happily watch a warts-and-all biopic of Barnum. Though maybe not at the cinema.
  19. Trailer doesn't really intrigue me but at this point it's just nice that adult-oriented mid-budget movies are still being made, I suppose.
  20. The dinos as heroes is an interesting conundrum, and I definitely lean towards the 'making them scary is far better' side. Obviously JP had the hero shot of the T-Rex saving the day at the end but it was just a nice singly moment, a fun surprise. JW devoting an entire set-piece to the T-Rex being a a good-guy action hero felt really off to me, fan-service to a fault. The T-Rex should be more xenomorph than Hulk.
  21. You mean last year? I'd say WW's legs were more of a surprise, so far at least (although a couple of posters on here did make some wild but eventually correct predictions).
  22. How the hell did the Get Out director not get a nomination?
